A lot of Niner fans hate Alex Smith. Granted, he struggled in 2005, but That was his rookie year, 99% of rookies have rough starts. And in 2006, he was good.
Yea, Tampa's TE Alex Smith is extremely underrated. With Garcia I expect him to have a break out season...
Alex Smith seems a bit overrated sometimes. Everyone seems to be on his bandwagon already. He hasn't proven anything yet... But that's not saying he won't. I'm guessing 20ish TDs and less than 12 INTs.
To me last year was really Smiths (49ers) rookie year because in 2005 he was hurt for most of the year and only played in 9 games. Smith improved so much last year, and the main thing that stood out was his confidence. I have no doubt he will have a better year but he is still not there yet. Even the 49ers gm said when they drafted Smith they didn't expect him to win games for them until his 4th or 5th year.
Also Smith at 23 is still the youngest starting qb in the league. Now that we have Jackson a legitimate recieving threat to go along with Battle who is under rated, and Vernon Davis and Ashley Lelie to spread the field, Smith will have a lot better season.
Alex Smith isn't underrated. He is a good QB, not a great one. However, this could be the turning year in San Fran.
