Well almost every year prospects either shoot up with good workouts, or hurt themselves. I think the combine is over rated, and doesn't mean anything. I mean look at Troy Williamson, shot up all the way to #7 a few years ago because he ran fast. All you basically have to do is have a fast 40 time, and you'll be a first round pick these days.
Walter, and guys, what players you think will shoot up draft boards and go higher than expected?
I pay no attention to the combine at all! Me and my friends were making fun of Vince Young last year for scoring so low in his intelligence test, then then he came out and played great. Grossman scored high on his test, he is a bum. Eli Manning scored higher on his test then Peyton Manning did, who is the better quarterback? Ryan Fitzpatrick, a guy Mike Martz said could of been a 1st round draft choice from Harvard, scored high and he only one good game. Does anybody else know if he is still in the NFL? The only part of the combine I'm even looking at are position drills. Numbers lie, so I don't care how fast Calvin Johnson runs the ball. Look at how they played during there college career to decide how high you should draft him, don't draft him based on his he did in practice. I played football in High School, I wasn't really that good, but I was really fast. I'm not big, not flexible, I have poor coordination, but I worked hard in practice and I was in the defensive playbook everynight memorizing the plays. I didn't do anything the entire time I played High School football. I didn't get a full scholarship, but I did get a scholarship to Houston. I didn't deserve it, but since I was fast, thats all it took.
Walter wrote: I have all the combine results on my Web site (click on Combine/Pro Day in the menu). I think Chris Houston, cornerback from Arkansas runs well today. We'll see.
Thanks Walt. Good call on Houston. Also Leon Hall was said to have not that great of speed but he ran a 4.39. That will certainly push his stock up a bit.
