Undefeated in the East
Permalink

Walt, last weeks top story "One more than 48" I think it was called has a wrong statement in the Extra Points section. It sais that if Philadelphia defeated us this week, they would be the first team to ever go undefeated in the NFC East. That is incorrect. The 1998 Dallas Cowboys went 8-0 in the NFC East, and were 2-6 against everyone else. Here are the scores.

v.s Arizona: W 38-10
@ New York Giants: W 31-7
@ Washington: W 31-10
@ Philadelphia: W 34-0
v.s New York Giants: W 16-6
@ Arizona: W 35-28
v.s Philadelphia: W 13-9
v.s Washington: W 23-7

I remembered Brad Schamm saying in the game against the Redskins, Congratulations to the 1998 Dallas Cowboys, the first team to ever go undefeated in the NFC East.

Thanks for catching that. Using pro-football-reference.com, I looked through all the years and I could have sworn that I saw those Cowboys lose, but you're right. I just checked it out.

Actually, we are both right. Dallas went 8-0 in the regular season vs. the NFC East, but lost in the playoffs to the Arizona Cardinals.

I forgot about that. But you cannot count the playoffs because the Eagles dont have the oppurtunity to lose to an NFC East team in the playoffs. So, I still say that they havent done anything that we have already done.

It doesnt matter if they dont have the opportunity. The fact remains that the Eagles will not lose to an NFC East team this year.
