I looked at the free agents and draft prospects this offseason and here are my predictions for who we get.
Quarterback- Kurt Warner, Free Agency, New York Giants Defensive End- David Pollack, Draft, University of Georgia Cornerback- Antrell Rolle, Draft, University of Miami (FL) Strong Safety- Jay Belamy, Free Agency, New Orleans Saints Defensive Tackle- Corey Simon, Free Agency, Philadelphia Eagles Offensive Tackle- Jammal Brown, Draft, University of Oklahoma Kicker- Adam Vinatieri, Free Agency, New England Patriots Middle Linebacker- Tedy Bruschi, Free Agency, New England Patriots
If these predictions are correct here are my predictions for next years season.
@ Philadelphia: W v.s Philadelphia: W @ Washington: W v.s Washington: W @ New York Giants: L v.s New York Giants: W 5-1 in NFC East @ San Fransisco: W @ Seattle: W v.s Arizona: W v.s St. Louis: W @ Carolina: L v.s Detroit: W 10-2 in NFC v.s Denver: W v.s Kansas City: W @ San Diego: L @ Oakland: W Cowboys finish 13-3
I don't know about 13-3 and I don't think the Patriots are letting go of Vinatieri or Bruschi any time soon. If they make those additions, 13-3 is possible, but there are always injuries and teams do not always get what they need.
How do you think the '05 Cowboys would fare if they just added Rolle, Pollack, Bellamy, Warner and Simon (all feasible acquisitions)?
By the way, how will the Cowboys get Jammal Brown, David Pollack and Antrel Rolle in the same draft? Do you have them trading next year's first rounder for an extra first round pick in April's draft?
I'd say 10 or 11 wins would be a solid goal for the Cowboys if they are able to make some upgrades this off-season, especially in a weak NFC. We've been saying this for years now, but the NFC East will finally be a good division in 2005. Eli Manning will be in his second year, Joe Gibbs will not have another six-win season, Dallas will be much improved and the Eagles are always solid.
I am actually expecting the Eagles to have a losing season next year. That is unless they win the NFC Championship. If they win it then they will probably win it all next year. But I think it is all momentum for the Eagles next year. If they lose in the NFC Championship, wouldnt you be tired of ending the season the same way over and over again. They have to get depressed and not do it one of these times.
Yeah, but we say that every year. Since the Buccaneers' loss, the city has been in a state of near-suicidal depression but the Eagles just keep on fighting and coming back. I think if we lose to the Vikings, Rams or Falcons, people will use TO's injury as an excuse. Plus, the Eagles are way below the salary cap and can afford to sign a secondary receiver like T.J. Houshmandzadeh.
I know but Damn. You have to get sick of getting so far every year and falling short. That is why no team has won three in a row. It is mentally tough for you to do the same routine over and over and over again. They will get sick of it eventually. I dont know when but they will.
I think if the Eagles were healthy going into the playoffs and they lost to Atlanta with T.O., you'd be right about our sub-.500 record in 2005. However, not having T.O. is a built-in excuse.
I saw that too, and if Parcells agrees with Jones on not changing the Quarterback position, then it looks like we will have no playoffs once more here.
We'll see what happens. Remember, the Cowboys play in a horrible NFC, so if they add some defensive players and some offensive linemen, they will improve. They will also have Julius Jones the entire season this time, unless he gets hurt again.
So what if we have Julius. Julius might gain 200 yards, and we have a 3 point lead, but Vinny throws and Interception on our 20 yard line and they win. You cant win without a stable quarterback, and Vinny is not a stable quarterback. Some teams in the past made the playoffs without a good quarterback, or maybe even without an OK one. But that quarterback doesnt make the big mistake, and Vinny time and time again has proven to me that he is a quarterback that makes the big mistake. If Jerry Jones wants a good 42 year old Quarterback, why not go with Doug Flutie, who looked outstanding in his only game this season.
I agree with that. Even Quincy Carter was better than Vinny. Unless either Drew Henson or Tony Romo pan out, what is Bill Parcells thinking? He needs to somehow acquire a quarterback this off-season, whether it's Kurt Warner, Matt Hasselbeck or Drew Brees.
But remember, it wasnt Bill Parcells that said it. It was Jerry, and Jerry has no power anymore. If Parcells is as good of a coach as I think he is, then he will say no.
Well, regardless if he we dont get a QB, if we get some the other additions I mentioned, I think we can maybe pull the Ravens card and get in without a good QB.
Well, to pull the Ravens card, you'll need a lot of help on defense. You have the salary cap space to do it, but the key is signing the right players; not Marcellus Wiley.
I think David Pollack will be 100x better than Marcellus Wiley. What a bust. You were right about him, I thought he would be a pro bowler and he ended up stinking it up.
Well, there's some good news: there are a few great defensive ends in the draft. The bad news? You guys may not even draft one because you have quite a number of needs. By the way, I'm going to start working on Off-season needs the week after the Super Bowl.
Well, I did hear a report yesterday, that we may be losing Buffalo's draft pick for Drew Bledsoe. Although right now Bledsoe is not very good looking on paper, but I am confident Parcells will be able to bring him back to his good old days. He wasnt able to bring Vinny back because Vinny is 88 years old. I say if indeed we do trade for Bledsoe we will be the NFC East Champions.
If the Eagles lose the Super Bowl and the Cowboys get Drew Bledsoe, Dallas may win the NFC East, but they won't be going far into the playoffs. Bledsoe is not a good quarterback and is only effective when he gets all day to throw the ball downfield. The Cowboys don't have that kind of blocking.
Even if Bledsoe has a successful regular season in 2005, I do not see him winning a Super Bowl any time soon. He is not a Super Bowl-caliber quarterback, even though he reached the big stage against the Packers.
Do you think Trent Dilfer is a Super Bowl Caliber Quarterback? You dont have a big play quarterback to win the super bowl, you just cant have a big mistake quarterback and Bledsoe is not a big mistake quarterback.
Good point on Dilfer. However, Dilfer had one of the best defenses on the other side of the ball. Do you honestly think the Cowboys can have that type of defense next year?
We have a future all pro running back, it is not like Drew Bledsoe will be taking every snap, so I believe if he can just not make the big mistake, then we are a super bowl caliber team, and he is a super bowl caliber quarterback.
If there is one thing you can take away from the 2004 season, you must recognize that you cannot win without defense. Just look at the Colts. Dallas had a terrible defense last year. I think their D needs to be upgraded before the QB position.
