Cowboys do not suck! But they are not going all the way this year either. They will have a Bye, defeat the team in Divisional win the NFC and then lose in the superbowl to the Indianapolis Colts. The Colts may not have a defense but they are one of the few teams that can make up for their Defense with their Offense. The NFC East is by far the hardest division this year but if you ask me here are the standings
who the f*** would ever think the cowboys are going anywhere anyway, with or without carter? they have huge holes. their o-line and d-line are filled with overrated players, I dont like theur LB's nor CB's (newman may develop but needs to show me some stuff)... they have the a sensational Safety tandem but that's not enough. vinny is washed up, eddie has very little left and jones has had a tough time learning the offense. me-shawn is an upgrade over galloway but lacks beakway speed and is nothing more than an average possesion WR. The division is MUCH, MUCH harder than last year and the cowboys' out of division schedule will be tougher than last year's. parcells is an INCREDIBLE coach, one of the best ever for sure. And that is the only reason this team can possibly win 8 games. This is a mosh-posh of overrated players with big "NAMES," not big play ability. Without Bill Parcells this is a 4-5 win team, with him they are 7-8, a little luck and a lot of health they might win 9, but that is the max. Mark my words, the cowboys will NOT make the playoffs!!!!!
Bull Crap! You are severely out of your mind. Dallas (other than the end of Quincy Carter.) has done nothing but improve, moron. Their already #1 defense has improved. You dont think Marcellus Wiley is better than Ebenezer Ekuban, or Eric Ogbogu? Dallas will be a sacking machine in '04. The loss of Mario Edwards is not as intense as people believe. I have seen Pete Hunter and he is much better than the overrated Edwards was. The safety postition is set of course with All Pro Free Safety Roy Williams, and outstanding veteran Strong Safety Darren Woodson. On Offense, I know for a fact that Julius Jones and Eddie George are much better than Troy Hambrick, and I believe Drew Henson could be the next Tom Brady. Tom Brady even said so. Dallas will not have as much success that they would have with Carter, but they will still make the Playoffs. So dont start grabbing your torches and pitchforks yet. Just calm down.
I think the Cowboys were going to make the playoffs with Quincy Carter, but I don't think they will with Vinny. Like I said in my Top Story, Forget 2004, the Dallas O-Line is held together by Scotch Tape and glue. Testaverde should be injured by week 6, which means a rookie will be at the helm. Rookies very rarely perform well. Look at Peyton Manning. In 1998, he threw for 3,700 yards, but he also threw 28 INTs, and the Colts were a last place team.
I don't think the Cowboys will be a sacking machine. Marcellus Wiley was a decent player in his prime, but he only registered 3 sacks last year. Since 2001, his statistics have declined.
I stand by my updated Season Preview projection. I have Dallas going 9-7.
Now that Quincy Carter is gone, I don't think Dallas has improved itself. Upgrades were made at RB and WR, but without a mobile quarterback, they can't possibly be better.
Drew Henson and Tony Romo are both mobile QBs, the only quarterback on the team that isnt is Vinny Testaverde, In every other position. Here is my formula
5-11 + Bill Parcells = 10-6 + Keyshawn Johnson, Marcellus Wiley, Julius Jones, and Eddie George - Troy Hambrick = 14-2 - Quincy Carter = 11-5.
At this point in their careers, Jay Fiedler is a better quarterback than Vinny Testaverde. I think he'd fit in well, because he'll avoid turnovers and is mobile enough not to get crushed by opposing defenders.
Yeah, Tony Romo and Drew Henson are both mobile quarterbacks, but rookie signal callers rarely fare well in the NFL.
Jay Fiedler rumors are all around town. It may just be gossip, because Bill has never said anything about it the press conference, but it it all over. Everytime I turn on my radio to Dallas Cowboys in the car, that is all they talk about, trading Eddie George to aquire Fiedler.
How well do you think Josh McCown will do this season, Ive read Its in the cards, but do you think he will be in the top half of the NFL, or bottom half?
Obviously the loss of Marcel Shipp for the regular season and Anquan Boldin till late October is going to hurt. Josh McCown has the tools to be a great quarterback. That's Dennis Green talking. Green is a quarterbacking genius. He made an old Randall Cunningham look flawless. He did wonders with Jeff George and Brad Johnson. Daunte Culpepper also had his best years under Green. Dennis Green thinks that McCown is a Pro Bowl caliber quarterback. They could have drafted a quarterback in the draft, but didn't until the seventh round. That should tell you something about Green's confidence in McCown.
Stat-wise, I think McCown can come close to about 3,600 yards passing. His defense stinks, so the Cardinals figure to be in tons of shoot-outs. This will be his first full year starting, and he's learning a new offense, so he may throw more interceptions than people would like, but in a year or two, I think he will become the Pro Bowler that Dennis Green predicted him to be.
On a quick note, I know someone who went to Arizona's training camp, and they told me that McCown has looked incredible.
I agree. But ever since Quincy Carter I havent been too sure about any QBs, how Bill Parcells put his trust in this kid, and took him under his wing... and then he threw it back in Bill and Jerry's face. I really dont like Jerry Jones, but I have to feel sorry for him that his man let him down. In Quincy's early games, you know against New York, Philly, Detroit, the Jets, and Arizona I thought he would be as good as Troy was. But he let me down, he let Bill down, he let Jerry down, he let my entire family down, he let the legacy of the Dallas Cowboys down. And it is very sad, but maybe it is a good thing that he did what he did so that we would get to give Tony Romo, Vinny Testaverde, or Drew Henson a chance. I say by the end of the year this will be the depth chart
Drew Henson, Tony Romo, Vinny Testaverde (injured reserve)
I usually don't like predicting injuries, but this one seems like a no-brainer. Vinny Testaverde behind that O-Line?
Quincy Carter let everyone down. Bill Parcells gave him a chance last year. Jerry Jones gave him a chance by drafting him in the second round. He did disappoint everyone.
I'm hearing that Drew Henson looks really sharp in camp. I wish I could see him on TV tonight. You must be excited about it. I don't know if you looked at my predictions page, but I have the Cowboys winning by 24 tonight. Parcells is 12-4 in the preseason, while Dom Capers is 1-8... and Domanick Davis is doubtful for tonight.
Im really Excited. Did you get the Eagles game last night? I was hoping ESPN or ABC would show it. So I was watching NFL Live on ESPN, and the headline was Eagles/Patriots, so I thought oh Tv guide must be mistaken cause it said "Streetball" so I watched and sure enough it was Streetball! What kind of idiot would show Streetball over a game which I thought would be pretty good between the Eagles and Pats. So I went on the internet and found this really cool site, which headlined "Live football on the net", and it had all the games and links to radio stations carrying the games, so I went to Boston radio and I listened to the game over the internet. Turned out to be a slaughter. Dang it! I am 1-5 so far. I picked the Broncs to beat the Skins because they would be playing for John Elway, but WRONG.picked Rams to beat Bears, WRONG.ed Falcons to upset Ravens, WRONG. Picked Chiefs to beat Giants, WRONG. Picked wrong in the other game too, but I did pick the Patriots. I have Dallas winning by 12 tonight.
For preseason games, I just look at coaches' records. That works in most cases. I picked Chicago to beat the Rams in St. Louis because Mike Martz doesn't care about the preseason (6-11).
What happened to Dallas? I couldn't see the game, but I followed it Play-by-Play until halftime. (I had to go to my cousin's farewell party - he's going to college in Florida). On paper, Vinny Testaverde looked terrible. Drew Henson's stats were better, but he threw a pick and did not put up any points in the process. Bill Parcells has to be furious.
You saw the game in action, so maybe you can tell me what they really looked like.
I disaggree. I thought Vinny looked much better than Drew, but my family disaggrees. Vinny never through an INT. He fumbled, but when Drew and Tony were in the game, they never got to the Quarterback. If they did they would have fumbled too. What really was good was Julius Jones. Eddie George looked okay, but Julius Jones looked like a young Emmitt. Now Im not saying Julius Jones will be the greatest runningback of all time, but he was breaking tackles right and left and he brought us to the goalline more than once, but Billy Cundiff missed a Fieldgoal, and Drew and Tony both through Interceptions. And the Defense definetly does not look like a #1 Defense anymore. My dad used the excuse that they were not in the game very long, but they were in the game the entire 1st and 2nd drive and guess what........Field Goal, Touchdown. But Roy Williams and Darren Woodson did not play the entire game and they are the center point of our defense. I would give Pete Hunter a C+. Near the end after he wore the rust off he was pretty good, but in the begginning, he couldnt tackle anyone, if he jumped on them they would throw him off of their back. Who really surprised me was Crayton, I think he just took the job from Zuriel (Thank God). But Bill Parcells made a very big mistake letting Reggie go. Reggie was very good. So is Newman, but Parcells is afraid of injuring Newman so he doesnt have Newman return punts unless he has to.
Remember that the Cowboys were also blanked in their first preseason game last year. I'm pretty sure that Julius Jones will be your starting running back throughout the season. Who looked really good was David Carr. I will be adjusting my season preview projections towards the end of preseason, so I may have to give the Texans a few more wins.
Yeah Carr has definetly come out of his shell. Boy, I hope your right about last year, but another wildcard exit and the worst seed in the playoffs is not good enough, if I coached them I wouldnt tolerate and I know that Bill wouldnt tolerate it. If we dont do any better this season look for Jerry Jones to show shades of Snyder.
Well, I did write that the Cowboys appear to be gearing up for 2005. This year may not matter as much to Parcells and Jones in the grand scheme of things. In '05, Drew Henson will be ready to lead the Cowboys deep into the playoffs.
