Hockey and Soccer are the only two major sports I dont watch on a regular basis. I never watch soccer and I only watch Hockey if nothing better is on but I am glad that Carolina won. I just root for all of the Hockey teams from the US.
I like hockey a lot. I think it's an underrated sport because it's so exciting and there's so much action. Unfortunately, I couldn't watch many games because I don't have OLN.
I loathe soccer. I don't understand why it's so popular outside the U.S. It's boring, there's no action and the players take dives like divas.
Another thing about soccer, whats with all the players taking off their shirts? I dont understand it and the stupid cards that the refs hold up. What the hell does that mean?
My problem with hockey is that you can hardly see the little puck flying around on the TV and when a player skates by you cant see the puck. I dont know how the camera men even keep up with it. But I like all the fighting, it is a redeeming quality in my mind. Lots of action. But I think Gary Bettman is a terrible commissioner. It was hilarious that time on PTI when they were doing the heads on sticks skit and Kornheiser was playing Bettman. Wilbon asked Kornheiser (Bettman) about the current lack of popularity in the sport and Kornheiser replied "What are you talking about, we have DOZENS of viewers on OLN every night."
That's pretty funny; I remember watching that. You're right; hockey doesn't translate well on TV, but I still like watching it. Besides playoff football, I don't think there's anything more exciting than overtime hockey in the postseason.
The shootout is very exciting, but I dont understand the rules for it. Do you just do like 2 overtimes and if it is still tied after that you go to shootout? Beats me.
I think the most exciting thing Ive seen on television in the past year was the Steelers @ Colts game in the Divisional Playoffs. First the Colts comeback, the Colts fourth-down failure, Bettis' fumble, Roethlisberger's tackle, Vanderjagt's miss etc. Nothing beats that.
You're right about the Steelers-Colts game. Indianapolis looked finished, but when Jerome Bettis fumbled that ball, I leaped out of my chair. I still can't believe Ben Roethlisberger made the tackle on Nick Harper. I did call the Mike Vanderjagt miss though. The look in his eyes said it all.
I didn't predict Vanderjagt's miss or the fact that Indianapolis didn't score a touchdown on the drive. In fact, I may or may not have exclaimed when I saw the fumble that it was over and the Colts were going to the AFC Championship Game.
