Hawks to sign Speedy Claxton
Permalink

Hawks reportedly have reached a deal with PG Speedy Claxton. Do to free-agency rules though, he cannot sign until July 12th. The deal is a 4 year deal, worth about $25 mill.

This is a good pick-up for the Hawks. They have had nothing at PG for the past two years. Joe Johnson is a great player, but he didn't like playing PG. With Speedy, they can now move Joe Johnson to play SG, like when he was with the Suns. Claxton is a solid player, last year with the Hornets, he averaged 12 points a game, as a back-up for Chris Paul.

Last year the two starting guards for the Hawks were played by Joe Johnson, who averaged 20.2 ppg last year, and Royal Ivey, who averaged 3.6 ppg. Ivey is no where near a starting guard in this league. The only reason to play Ivey is he is solid on defense. With that said, Ivey would be a nice sub late in the game to hold on to a victory. And stand-out second rounder from last years draft, Salim Stoudamire, who averaged over 9.7 ppg last year, would be a nice sub for Joe Johnson.

I'm not sure anything the Hawks do qualifies as "good." Speedy Claxton is a solid player, but $25 mil for only four years? I guess Billy Knight has to overpay people to come to Atlanta.

Lol, hey whatever it takes right? How much did Joe Johnson get? Like 70 mill?

Haha, yeah, see what I mean? It doesn't seem like the Hawks will be good any time soon. David Stern would probably be better off contracting them. What purpose does Atlanta serve besides losing 50 games every year?
