Was it just me, or was anybody else surprised about week 1. Here is what stood out for me.
I think Bledsoe played terrible, and if I was a Cowboys fan, I would want Tony Romo in. Joey, how do you feel about this?
I was also surprised how Ahman Green rushed for 110 yards on 20 carries against the Bears defense. And how poorly Thomas Jones rushed against the Packers defense.
Was it me, or did Alex Smith look like a real QB. I think he played great, and I also think the 49ers played great. I think Mike Nolan is a great coach.
Chad Pennington also surprised me, I think he played great. 24/33 319 yards and two TD's.
Baltimore destroying the Bucs 27-0. Chris Simms throwing 3 picks. Jamal Lewis didn't run that bad either.
The Bills sticking with the Pats. Brady struggling, while Losman had an alright game.
Donovan McNabb played great vs the Texans 24/35 314 yards 3 touchdowns and a pick. Also, the Texans played like a real team at the beginning. Scoring a touchdown on the opening drive. Shutting down the Eagles offense and there first possession, then getting a pick on the next possession. It's a shame the Texans have no running game.
Lions sticking it to the Seahawks. Alexander only getting 51 yards rushing. This should of been a blow-out.
ATLANTA RUNNING ALL OVER CAROLINA. I WAS BOUCNING OFF THE WALLS, I CAN ONLY IMAGINE HOW JOHN FOX MUST OF BEEN. VICK AND DUNN THRASHED US! WE WERE 3RD AGAINST THE RUN LAST YEAR, BUT DUNN WAS RUNNING WILD. WE ALSO GAVE UP BIG THROWS BY VICK, VERY FRUSTRATING! NOW WE HAVE THE POSSIBILITY OF GOING 0-2 VS A TOUGH VIKINGS TEAM NEXT WEEK!
I AM ALSO CONVINED THAT DELHOMME IS NOTHING WITHOUT STEVE SMITH. THERE WAS NO MIXTURE IN THE RUNNING. WHY WAS WILLIAMS DRAFTING WITH THE FIRST PICK IF YOUR NOT GOING TO GIVE HIM SOME CARRIES. YOU DON'T DRAFT SOMEBODY IN THE FIRST ROUND FOR KICK RETURNS. VERY FRUSTRATING DAY FOR A PANTHER FAN!
What do you guys think about week 1?

Cowboys: I don't know why they didn't go deep more often to Glenn and Owens. Why did they run so much? Bill Parcells called a terrible game, while Bledsoe made some of the ugliest passes I've ever seen. If he keeps this up, I'd throw Tony Romo in.
49ers: Alex Smith has arrived. I'm now a believer
Jets: Pennington played great, but he was going against the worst defense in the NFL. Let's see what he does against New England.
Ravens: Sorry to that anonymous guy. I totally underestimated Baltimore.
Patriots: Check out my Top Story to read how I feel about this.
Eagles: With the Cowboys and Giants losing, it's amazing that Philadelphia has the upper hand in the NFC East. Let's see how he does against the Giants.
Lions: I called for a close game, so I was not surprised by this.
Panthers: Looked like they totally gave up without Steve Smith. MVP candidate?
I am very angry about the Jacksonville game. I can't tell you how many times Parcells did this last year too. HE REFUSES TO PLAY AGGRESSIVELY AND THAT BITES US IN THE BUTT EVERY TIME! With all our studs on defense there was no reason for us to blitz just once in the first 3 quarters when the game was still in hand. With our weapons on offense, there was no reason for him to only throw deep once in the first 3 quarters. He did both in the 4th quarter but by then we were down 24-10 and the game had been decided. I think maybe the reason he refused to throw deep was because he was afraid of Bledsoe. If that is true, then he needs to put Romo in. If he refuses to put Romo in, then I hope Jerry fires him. He did this with Vinny too, no matter how bad a QB is, if they are his friend, then he will not bench him. He cannot allow this talented team to be led by an ineffective quarterback any longer. It wont go. Cudos to you Walt for calling this. Bledsoe looked terrible. I say we give him one last chance against Washington, if he struggles early on, insert Romo. We need an aggressive play caller as our head coach now. At this point, I would rather have Mike Martz than Parcells. It's like he doesnt want to win. Last year against Washington, Oakland, New York at home, and Seattle he did the same thing. See a pattern? 3 of the 4 were losses and the other one was an overtime game that we barely one at home against a division rival. This is just terrible and it wont be tolerated much longer. We're too talented to have a coach hold us back like this.
On a side note, TO looked great. A very good acquisition.
Mike Nolan has done wonders with this team. Next year they will compete for a playoff spot.
Pennington looked excellent and so did the Jets. It was against Tennessee however. Poor Jeff Fisher. He is one of the greatest coaches in the league and he is doomed to be fired following this season. Maybe the Cowboys can return him to Texas?
I will give it to that guy, he was exactly right on Baltimore and I was wrong. Cudos. Now if you could only learn tact.
New England looked terrible. I guess Walt and I both got one right and one wrong. Walt was right about Bledsoe and I was right about the Patriots.
If the Cowboys aren't aggressive next week against Washington then we will be staring at 0-2.
I cant believe that Detroit shut down Shaun Alexander. Rod Marinelli looks like a great coach.
The story for me is more Atlanta than it is Carolina. The Panthers have dug themselves a huge hole in the NFC South after losing at home to the Falcons while Atlanta looks like a power.
Cowboys 24, Redskins 7. Washington looked awful against Minnesota and the Cowboys will want to prove themselves after the Jacksonville game. Bledsoe is replaced at halftime.
If you watch Bill Parcells' press conference yesterday they asked him if he was planning on starting Tony Romo next week based on the performance of Bledsoe last week. He continuely said "No, Im not ready to make that decision YET" (emphasis added).
With the way the Bucs played in Week 1 and since the Saints are probably a year away from competing for a playoff berth it looks like Carolina's only test for the division crown will be Atlanta, and if they hope to finish ahead of the Falcons they now have to win in Atlanta. I don't think they will.
Cowboys win by 17 and Bledsoe's benched in the first half? How does that happen?
I did notice that YET. Bledsoe better have the game of his life against the Redskins. I think he will if Shawn Springs is out. Mike Rumph is a terrible replacement.
I don't think Tampa Bay is done. They had one terrible game, but I think they will bounce back.
7-7 at halftime, Bledsoe has thrown 2 interceptions and fumbled once. The Cowboys return to the field with Tony Romo, who leads them to a blowout win in the second half.
I dont like Tampa Bay anymore. Chris Simms doesn't look like he's ever going to mature as an NFL quarterback.
Well, let's hope Dallas wins and covers because I took them this week. Shawn Springs is unlikely to play, meaning Mike Rumph will have to cover either Terrell Owens or Terry Glenn.
I don't think Chris Simms will ever be great, but he was solid last season. Like I said, don't count he Bucs out. I'm calling for an upset over Atlanta.
Really? With a QB who always implodes in the playoffs, or a QB with no postseason experience? I still think the Cowboys will make the playoffs, but a Super Bowl? I really doubt it.
I think our team is good enough that we just need someone to "drive the bus" as Parcells says. Unfortunately, Bledsoe tends to reck the bus. I don't believe that Romo would.
Maybe not in the future, but you can't honestly trust a rookie QB to take you guys the distance. The Cowboys lost to the Jaguars -- they're not going deep in the postseason.
Romo might be though. I dont understand why everyone is saying that Bledsoe bounced back against the Redskins, did you see how many passes he threw behind and above our receivers? We had our fair share of drops too but several of his completions were horrible passes that our receivers just went up for and caught.
I agree, I wasn't completely sold on Drew Bledsoe.
We've never seen Tony Romo play in a regular-season game, so neither of us can say how good or bad he is. But the fact remains that he is basically a rookie, and will have problems on the road and in the playoffs.
Not necessarily but again, we'll just have to wait and see. We've got our bye this week and Tennessee the week after that so unless by some miracle we lose to the Titans then Bledsoe's safe at quarterback for a few weeks.
You're right, there's so many terrible teams this year. Last year we had several bad teams like the Packers, Saints, 49ers, Jets, Titans, Texans and Raiders but the Packers, Titans, Texans and Raiders this year are all teams that could go winless. Its crazy.
It's like parity doesn't exist in Oakland, Green Bay, Tennessee and Houston. All four teams have one thing in common: They either have bad owners or incompetent GMs. The Raiders have Al Davis; Green Bay has Ted Thompson, who hired Mike McCarthy; Tennessee has the dynamic duo of Bud Adams and GM Floyd Reese; and the Texans just got rid of Charley Casserly.
I've never liked Bud Adams. He makes split-second decisions that cripple his teams' chances of winning for several years. You'd think he'd learn his lesson after the first couple times, but no he did it THREE TIMES! He broke up the Bum Phillips Oilers of the 70's and then after several years he built the Warren Moon-led Run & Shoot Oilers of the 80's and 90's, then he breaks that team up and builds the Steve McNair Tennessee Titans of recent years, then he trades McNair and the Titans are one of the worst teams in football just 3 years after playing New England's pants off in the Divisional Playoffs. Why does he keep making the same mistakes?
No loyalty whatsoever. He better stop it too or else he'll become like Al Davis and wont be able to hire anyone but former players to coach his football team.
