NFL Pick'em: Week 5
Permalink

Detroit @ Minnesota

2 weeks ago this game would have been a laugh-in, now after Detroit's impressive showing last week and Minnesota's lack luster effort against Buffalo I considered this as an upset but I don't see it actually happening. It's been forever since the Lions won in Minnesota and that isn't going to change, especially with this Lions team. Vikings 28, Lions 17

Tennessee @ Indianapolis

This game is a joke. If we scored 45 on the Titans, who knows how many points the Colts could score on Tennessee if they wanted to. Indianapolis wins in a rout. Colts 42, Titans 17

St. Louis @ Green Bay

The Rams usually have trouble playing outdoors but considering how bad the Packers are and, no matter how ugly its been, the Rams are 3-1 and fighting for a playoff berth. The Rams finally beat a bad team without having to work for it. Rams 29, Packers 17

Buffalo @ Chicago

The Bills have been surprisingly impressive so far this season but it ends here. The Bears are the NFL's best team right now. Bears 31, Bills 0

Cleveland @ Carolina

Carolina is playing horribly considering their talent and one of these times they're going to go into a seemingly easy game overconfident and lose and it's going to cost them a playoff berth, however, this isn't that game against a Cleveland team that had to give it everything they've got to beat sorry Oakland. Panthers 27, Browns 17

Washington @ NY Giants

Both teams need this game badly although New York needs it more than Washington (if the G-Men lose they're 1-3!) but the Redskins have more momentum and last year the Giants won this game for Wellington Mara. This year they have no such motivation. The Redskins appear to be the better team and they'll showcase that in this game. Redskins 24, Giants 17

Tampa Bay @ New Orleans

Tampa's gonna have motivation for this game since they could fall to 0-4 but really who cares? The Bucs have no talent and they're playing the Saints in New Orleans, where I don't think that the Saints are going to lose a game this year. Saints jump to 4-1. Saints 34, Buccaneers 17

Miami @ New England

Another game that looked good on paper before the season and now is a laugh-in. The Dolphins are one of the worst teams in the NFL and the Patriots dominated what was the NFL's best team in their house. New England wins huge. Patriots 21, Dolphins 0

Oakland @ San Francisco

I scratched my head at the 41-0 score last week but other than that the Niners have been playing good ball this season. I like them to beat the Raiders, but is that really saying much? 49ers 27, Raiders 13

NY Jets @ Jacksonville

The Jets have been really rather good this season but you wont be able to tell that from this game. The Jags are angry after losing 2 straight to fall to .500 and they'll leave little doubt who's the better team in this matchup. Jaguars 35, Jets 10

Kansas City @ Arizona

The Chiefs have finally woke up while Arizona has gone from a playoff hopeful to a rebuilding team in the span of just 4 weeks. The Chiefs get back to .500. Chiefs 24, Cardinals 17

Dallas @ Philadelphia

Mmmmmmmm..... I think everyone's mouth is watering for the foot to touch the leather in this game. Everybody's picking the Eagles surprisingly and don't think the Cowboys haven't noticed it. We are just a far superior team to them. Who has Philly beaten? They've sat on opponents like Houston, San Francisco, and Green Bay and lost at home to the sorry Giants in a game that they should have had all the motivation for after going 0-6 in the NFC East last year. Although we beat up on the sorry Titans last week, we've also played the Redskins who are now proving that they are still a playoff contender and nearly beaten the Jaguars if Bill Parcells plays agressively and if Drew Bledsoe looked less like Vinny Testaverde. We beat Philly. Cowboys 37, Eagles 27

Pittsburgh @ San Diego

What a huge game. If the champs lose, they're staring at 1-3 with the only victory being a narrow win at home against a horrid Miami team and if San Diego lose then they're down to .500. Although Pittsburgh has been less than impressive thus far, I'll take Bill Cowher over his former mentor who always seems to lose the big game. Imagine the problems Blitzburgh can cause for a rookie quarterback. Steelers 17, Chargers 13

Baltimore @ Denver

Another really good game. Even though they seem to be unable to win a game outside of the last play of the game anymore, I think Baltimore is a really good team. They take on Jake Plummer, and who knows how he's going to play. At least with Baltimore you know what you're getting. It really depends on which Denver team shows up. Ravens 24, Broncos 10

I'll post some of my predictions, and lets compare what we think.

Green Bay beats St. Louis. The Rams will be looking ahead to the Seahawks game in Week 6.

I also think the Giants beat the Redskins, as it is a must-win game for them.

Too much emotion in Philadelphia. Remember that Saints-Falcons game? It won't be that extreme, but it'll be close. It's a must-win, must-revenge game for the Eagles and the entire city of Philadelphia. I can't see the Eagles losing.

Now my predictions aren't as long, but here they are.

Bills vs Bears - The Bills have played good, and they seem to be a pesky team, but it won't matter against the Bears who will look to stay undeafeted. Bears Over Bills

Rams vs Packers - I think Bulger will have a big day. Rams over Packers

Titans vs Colts - The Colts won't blow this out too much, because in my opinion they will run the majority of the time. Colts over Titans

Lions vs Vikings - The Lions are searching for there first win, but it won't be in this game. Vikings over Lions

Dolphins vs Patroits - The Dolphins need to get rolling, but I doudt they will in this game. Patroits over Dolphins

Buccaneers vs Saints - The Buccaneers season is over. Saints over Buccaneers

Redskins vs Giants - I think the Redskins are amped up, after they beat The Jags, and I see no reason why they can't win here. Redskins over Giants

Browns vs Panthers - I think the Panthers will take this game easy since they bounced back to .500, but they will still win. Panthers over Browns

Chiefs vs Cardinals - If the Cardinals want to win, they'll need James to have a big day, but I don't see that happening very often with that offensive line. Chiefs over Cardinals

Raiders vs 49ers - If the 49ers lose, they will lose all dignity. 49ers over Raiders

Jets vs Jaguars - The Jets have been impressive, but they have no chance here. Jaguars over Jets

Cowboys vs Eagles - This was a tough one, I think the Cowboys are better, but I wouldn't be surprised with there were several false start calls and momentary pauses in the game due to fans throwing things on the field. Eagles over Cowboys

Steelers vs Chargers - This is another good game. Big Ben gets a F so far in my book. Rivers will be tested but I don't think the Steelers will be able to move the ball that effectivly. I think they will have some good drives, but I don't see them doing much with how terrible Big Ben has played. Chargers over Steelers

Ravens vs Broncos - This should be yet another pretty good game. In my opinon, if the Ravens can't get things going early, they lose. Broncos over Ravens

Green Bay can't beat anyone but Detroit. Its like an NCAA Div II team playing a BCS conference team, ain't gonna happen.

The Giants-Redskins matchup is a close one but the 'Skins apparently have more drive to reach the playoffs again considering how hard they tried against Jacksonville and how hard New York didn't try against a Seattle team that doesn't look like its all that great after being blown out by the Bears. Redskins win.

The Philly fans won't be playing in the game- TO will, and if the Eagles try to take him away like I bet they do, Terry Glenn will have a huge day. We've come into Philadelphia and beaten the Eagles when the fans were really into the game before- see last year. We are far superior and we will defeat them.

Panthers and Blazers we agreed on everything except the last three. I've already given my reasons for the Cowboys-Eagles matchup, for the Pittsburgh/San Diego game I like the Steelers because I think Big Ben will finally get into shape but even if he doesn't, all the Steelers "O" has to score is about 14 points and they'll win the game. I dont think San Diego is going to be scoring many points against Pittsburgh's defense. I look to quarterback play in the Baltimore/Denver matchup as well. Jake the Mistake is going to have problems going against the Baltimore defense and Steve McNair will be clutch as usual. Ravens stay undefeated.

I guess all of these games will be settled in a few hours. Let's see how everyone did when it's all over.

You were right about all of them except the St. Louis game which Green Bay was surprisingly competitive in. The primetime games should be interesting.

Neither of us was right in the St. Louis-Green Bay contest, as the Rams won by 3, which was the spread. Push.

There were actually three Pushes on Sunday, which is something you never see. Rams won by 3, Patriots won by 10, and Panthers (thanks to a few Charlie Frye mistakes) won by 8. I really thought Cleveland could come very close to knocking off Carolina.

Cleveland is in a pretty similar situation to us. They are an otherwise pretty good team besides the quarterback position. I guess Parcells just teaches his disciples that you can win by building a great team with a bad quarterback. Looks like he's proven himself wrong.

The difference is, Charlie Frye is young and is improving every week. Drew Bledsoe has hit his ceiling, and we know what to expect of him.

Parcells reiterated that he's not putting Romo in yet. Why not?! We don't have any chance of losing against Houston no matter who we play at quarterback.

I guess if there was a time to start Romo, this would be it. But I wouldn't feel comfortable with a first-year quarterback regardless.

You would feel more comfortable with Bledsoe?

Good point. I guess it's a lose-lose situation.

Do you think the Cowboys should try and swing a trade for a veteran quarterback?

No, I really think Romo's going to be pretty good. Parcells is starting to kind of talk about putting Romo in if we lose again any time soon so Im thinking that Romo should be in any time soon if we lose to either Houston or New York. In that case, I wouldn't really mind it for us to lose to one of the two.

I can't imagine the Cowboys losing to Houston. That would be disastrous. Not just for the team, but for my suicide pools.

I wouldn't think we would either but who knows what Bledsoe will do on any given Sunday.

I'm expecting the same Cowboys team that squashed Tennessee.

What do you think about the latest Owens fiasco?

All I heard was that Owens and Todd Haley got into a screaming match but thats about it. Jerry Jones said he's disciplining Haley though, not Owens, so I guess it was his fault. Owens and Haley hugged today after TO scored a touchdown though so I guess theyre fine now. I dont blame TO for being mad, the Cowboys dont call his number nearly as many times as they should. They finally did better today as TO caught 3 touchdowns.

Everything seems OK now in Dallas, but as soon as they lose again, you know that another TO story will break loose.

I dont know about that, I think he's going to be on his best behavior. That Haley story was clearly overhyped by the media. Anyway, we're not going to be losing many more games from here on out.

Are you sure about that? I think there are at least three more losses on Dallas' schedule.

When the next one happens, I'm curious to see how T.O. reacts.

Carolina's a loss and we'll probably lose to either the Giants in New York, or the Colts in Dallas. Other than that, we should win out.

Maybe -- what do you think about the MNF game? I think it'll be close and could go either way.

I think we'll win but not by much. It'll go down to the fourth quarter. Maybe alot like the Cowboys/Eagles game only this time we end up on the good end of the scoreboard.

I think the Cowboys will jump out to a lead, and the Giants will come back. I don't know if who will win, but I think a field goal definitely decides this game.

I could see that happening. I actually have us leading by 7 and the Giants driving for the game-tying score but we intercept Manning in the endzone to seal the victory.

I could see that happening, but like I said before, I think this is anyone's game.

Im a little worried now after the Tiki Barber news. The Giants might be playing for him this Sunday.
