NFL Pick-'em: Week 6
Permalink

Buffalo @ Detroit

The Lions have been close for a couple weeks now and I think here they finally claim victory #1. I think the Bills' great run to start the season is ready to subside, meanwhile I think the Lions are finally ready to compete. Rod Marinelli gets his first victory as a head coach. Lions 26, Bills 24

Houston @ Dallas

Easy victory. As I said in my Power Rankings, Houston O-Line meet the Dallas Defense. We win big. Cowboys 44, Texans 0

Carolina @ Baltimore

This is a really tough one to pick. The Panthers have finally hit their stride and the Ravens finally lost a game. Since this game is so close, I'll go with the home team and the team that will probably have more inspiration to win after losing their first game. Ravens in a close one. Ravens 24, Panthers 20

NY Giants @ Atlanta

I really don't know what to think of the Giants. Some weeks they look great and other weeks they look horrible. This should be billed as "Separation Sunday" since there are so many games that will let us know which teams are really good and which teams are frauds. For me it comes down to this, Atlanta has been consistent thus far, New York has not. I'll go with the Falcons. Falcons 38, Giants 34

Tennessee @ Washington

This is one of the few easy games to pick this week. Redskins climb back to .500. Redskins 38, Titans 10

Cincinnati @ Tampa Bay

Look out, Bengals. This one smells like an upset but I just can't pull the trigger. The Bengals have had 2 weeks to think about that loss to New England and they will take care of business. Bengals 27, Buccaneers 17

Seattle @ St. Louis

This is a monster matchup for the NFC West since the Rams can take a game and a half lead in the West if they win and the Seahawks can overtake the Rams for the division lead if they win. Although St. Louis has not been impressive in their close wins against lousy teams, it is a strong possibility that they have been looking ahead to this one for a while. Shaun Alexander is out and the Seahawks have the curse to contend with. I like the Rams to establish themselves as the team to beat in the West. Rams 48, Seahawks 24

Philadelphia @ New Orleans

Its time for the Saints emotional roller coaster to get going again. After two kind of nonchalant efforts against Carolina and Tampa Bay, they are back home in New Orleans again in front of their home crowd with another huge game on the line. This time, the Saints at 4-1 are playing the Eagles, also at 4-1 in a game that has huge playoff implications for so early. Add in that Philadelphia might be emotionally drained after their game against us last week and that they probably don't care as much about this game as they did for the game last week, I like New Orleans. Saints 27, Eagles 17

San Diego @ San Francisco

The 49ers have been surprisingly good but San Diego is a playoff-hopeful team, I cant see them losing to the Niners in a game that also has bragging rights for the state of California. Chargers 31, 49ers 17

Kansas City @ Pittsburgh

This is blowout city. The Steelers are irrelevant if they lose this one and they take on a Chiefs team that doesn't really need this game after moving back to .500. Pittsburgh wins in a rout. Steelers 37, Chiefs 0

Miami @ NY Jets

Miami finally found some offensive life last week with Joey Harrington oddly enough but the Jets are going to be in a bad mood after being routed by the Jaguars last week. I expect a good game from the Dolphins, who can hardly afford to lose any other games to keep their already minute playoff hopes alive. Jets pull it out in the end. Jets 27, Dolphins 24

Oakland @ Denver

This is the Sunday Night Game?! What was NBC thinking? Although it is a mismatch on the field, this is a rivalry game so the Raiders will probably play what might be their best game of the year, but thats simply not good enough. The Broncos might be overlooking the Raiders, but they wont let themselves actually lose this game. Oakland covers the spread, but they still lose. Broncos 31, Raiders 24

Chicago @ Arizona

Unlike NBC, I'll give ESPN a break for scheduling this one. I thought this would be a good game before the season started, not so now. Arizona is not a very good team and the Bears have a great shot at going 16-0. I like Chicago in another rout. Bears 44, Cardinals 6

I think Houston will score some points, but I agree it will be a blowout.

I'm going with the upset in the Tampa Bay game. I'm considering that as my Pick of the Month.

I don't think the Chargers lose to the 49ers, but I think it stays close. A few San Diego players were quoted as saying they will roll over San Francisco. That's never a good sign.

Steelers game is the other I'm considering as my Pick of the Month.

I agree with Joey on the Jets-Miami game. We are a very angry team after the beating we recieved on week 5 at the Jaguars. The dolphins are in big trouble.

The Jets should win. But I'm puzzled as to why the line is so low. I thought the spread would be 6 or 7, but it opened up at 3. I guess we either know something or are missing something? I guess we'll find out on Sunday.

Here are my predictions:

Giants vs Falcons - It seems everyone is counting Dunn out, well I'm counting him in, and I'm counting on a Falcons win. Falcons over Giants

Texans vs Cowboys - The Cowboys couldn't have asked for a better rebound game. Cowboys over Texans

Bills vs Lions - I think the Lions are desperate and will scrape out there first win. Lions over Bills

Seahawks vs Rams - This was a very hard game for me to choose. I guess I'll just take the Rams. Rams over Seahawks

Eagles vs Saints - The Saints need to keep McNabb in check if they want to him. After an emotional win, I wonder if the Eagles are pumped for this game. However, I'm still going to take the Eagles. Eagles over Saints

Bengals vs Buccaneers - Bruce Gradkowski played excellent last week, but the Bengals will be a real test. Bengals over Buccaneers

Titans vs Redskins - The Redskins offense should have no problem with the Titans defense. Redskins over Titans

Panthers vs Ravens - Even with McNair, the Raven's offense is still sluggish. Panthers over Ravens

Dolphins vs Jets - Now entering the twilight zone, Joey Harrington is greater then Daunte Culpepper. Jets over Dolphins

Chiefs vs Steelers - It is do or die for the Steelers, they need this win more then anything in the world. Steelers over Chiefs

Chargers vs 49ers - Alex Smith with be knocked around like a David Carr clone. Chargers over 49ers

Raiders vs Broncos - Even though the Raiders have zero chance, I think they'll fight till the end. Broncos over Raiders

Bears vs Cardinals - Matt Leinart will marvel at how great the Bears defense is. Bears over Cardinals

Looks like you and I agree on everything except the Eagles-Saints game which could go either way. I wasn't very confident in my Saints pick, but Ill stand by it. I wish the Cowboys game was late so I could watch the entire Philly-New Orleans game but Ill just have to flip around at commercials and watch it once we have the game out of reach.

I think the Panthers beat the Ravens.

Panthers/Blazers: Who's counting Warrick Dunn out? I didn't hear anything like that on TV.

What a win for the Saints. New Orleans is a playoff team.

That was an impressive win for the Saints, but I think the Eagles would have won if they weren't coming off a very emotional victory against Dallas.

As for New Orleans look at its remaining schedule: Baltimore, Tampa Bay, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Atlanta, (San Francisco), Dallas, Washington, NY Giants and Carolina.

If the Saints survive that, they're the real deal.

I think 11-5. They'll go 8-0 in New Orleans and win one of their remaining road games.

I'm rooting for the Saints to do well, but I don't think they get 11 wins. That's a pretty tough schedule. Hope I'm wrong.

That's pretty possible -- I can see that happening.

Saints win division, Panthers win wildcard.

I think both teams definitely make it to the playoffs. What about Atlanta, do you think they're done? That's what I think.

Yeah, I think they're done. They might compete down the stretch but I dont see more than 7 or 8 wins. Last night I was watching Inside the NFL and they had an interview with Cris Carter and Mike Vick and Vick blamed his performance on everyone but him. His receivers, his coaching staff etc. How does he think that makes his receivers feel? I think Atlanta (and Vick) is done.

That sounds like Michael Vick. He should just admit that he's a subpar passer, at best. He has way too much pride to do that. That's a huge weakness of his.

Did you hear about these secret meetings Arthur Blank has been having with his coordinators?

I think Vick is headed out of this league in a hurry. Teams have obviously figured his game out.

I haven't heard about those meetings. What's going on?

Vick won't be out of this league. If anything, his next team will play him at receiver or running back.

The offensive and defensive coordinators of the Falcons got into a heated argument. Arthur Blank met with both of them, and wouldn't allow Jim Mora Jr. into the room. He finally did, and it is rumored that the D-Coordinator is blaming the O-Coordinator for not maintaining long drives. The O-Coordinator then blamed Mora for sticking with Vick. It seems some of the coaches want Matt Schaub at quarterback. I don't blame them.

I would go with Schaub as well although Atlanta is being surprisingly competitive with Pittsburgh right now. That would be a huge win for the Falcons. Isn't Atlanta's offensive coordinator the same guy that Terrell Owens screamed at in San Francisco?

Yeah, that's Greg Knapp.

How about Michael Vick throwing 4 touchdown passes. I think that's a fluke more than anything.

I agree. Pittsburgh's just not the same team. Their offense has only had 1 good game (vs Kansas City) and their defense, like you said, gave up 4 touchdown passes to Michael Vick and 41 points to the Falcons. The Steelers are done.

Well, their offense also had a good game in Atlanta.

The Steelers aren't done. They'll beat Oakland this week, while both the Bengals and Ravens COULD lose. The Steelers play the Browns twice, Ravens twice (could catch them) and the Bengals again in a revenge game. If they lose to the Raiders, then they're done.

They won't lose to the Raiders but they'll lose all their games against the Bengals and Ravens and probably lose one to the Browns. They're mediocre at best in my book.

No way. They'll split with the Ravens at worst. They'll sweep the Browns. I think they'll beat New Orleans at home in another must-win after losing to Denver. They'll beat Tampa Bay at home. Don't count them out yet.

I can see them beating Tampa and New Orleans but I stand by what I said. They'll go 1-5 in that division.

I don't get how you think the woeful Browns will beat the Steelers. Pittsburgh is still a really good team.

I don't think they are. They really had problems with Miami in the first game and that was a measuring stick because they've sucked against everybody else. Steelers are not a good football team.

They haven't sucked against everyone else. They crushed the Chiefs, who beat the Chargers a week later. They were also ahead of the Falcons before Ben Roethlisberger got hurt.
