I like the Northwestern pick. I think Michigan State has give up on John L. Smith.
Cal is my Double Money Pick this week. They're on fire, and Washington's starting QB is out.
I'm torn about Rutgers and Pitt. On one hand, Rutgers has no passing game. On the other, Pitt has Dave Wannstedt as its coach. It's anyone's game to lose.
I have a feeling Pitt is going to jump out to a lead, but Wannstedt's conservative game plan will let Rutgers back into it. That's what happened against Michigan State; the Panthers actually had a 10-0 lead in that game.
I couldn't agree with you more. Frank Caliendo said something funny about that last year on the Fox pregame show. He was doing a Jim Rome impersonation and he said something like "What Pennslvania High School are you eyeing for your next job, Dave?"
I didn't watch the whole game, so I don't know if Dave Wannstedt did anything wrong specifically. But I'm not surprised that Rutgers was allowed to improve to 7-0.
I agree completely that Miami should fire Coker immediately.
Pitt isn't going to fire Wannstedt this year since Pitt is going to finish with a winning record but I think they should have fired him last year. He took over a team that was in a BCS bowl game the previous year and had a losing record with them.
Yeah, I don't think they fire Dave Wannstedt just yet. But just wait for all of his blunders next year when he coaches a team with an inexperienced quarterback.
Coker must go. Miami needs to bring Butch Davis back.
Year-in and Year-out Miami was one of the most, if not the most, talented teams in the NFL and year-in and year-out they either had a quick exit in the playoffs or they didn't make the playoffs at all. Wannstedt is horrible.
Under Wannstedt, the Dolphins over-achieved in 2000 before underachieving every year after that. A competent coach would have at least taken a team that talented to the AFC Championship game once. Like I said, he did a pretty solid job in 2000 but in 2001 they lost a home wildcard game to a Ravens team that had no offense whatsoever. The next year, the Dolphins didn't even make the playoffs, losing the division to the less talented Jets. In '03 he missed the playoffs yet again while less talented teams like the Broncos and Ravens made it in. He was horrible.
The Dolphins had one of the best teams in the NFL for a number of years, and they either fell short in the playoffs, or failed to reach the postseason all together. Remember that Week 17 game in New England in 2002? Miami blew an 11-point lead in the final two minutes when all it had to do was win a game against the then 8-7 Pats.
2002 was like the year of the choke. The Chargers choked, the Saints choked and the Dolphins choked. I bet it would have been pretty frustrating for me if I was a fan of one of those teams but it made for one exciting year in the NFL.
