Walt I dont know if you watched SportsCenter after PTI on September 28th but Sean Salisbury did a segment called the 4 Ps: Panic, Potential, Pretender, and Patience
He said the Rams and Chiefs should panic. Packers and Titans have potential. Broncos and Lions are pretenders. And the Skins and Steelers need patience.
I say the Chiefs and Titans should panic. The Packers and Panthers have potential. The Saints and Broncos are pretenders. And the Lions and Redskins need patience.
Potential: Lions: They are growing before our very eyes. Even though they were slaughtered by the Eagles, Mariucci will use that as motivation. The Vikings will have a meltdown this season, enabling Detroit to win the NFC North.
Pretenders: Any team without a good defense. They will collapse in the playoffs. I'm talking about: Philadelphia, Indianapolis and especially Minnesota.
Patience: Titans because they started out 1-4 in 2002 and ended up going to the AFC Championship.
Yes, but two of those four losses werent home divisional games. They need to panic, they will end up being swept by at least one of those teams, if not both. And if they are 1-5 in their division, which they will be if they get swept by Jags and Colts then there is no way they will make the playoffs in that conference.
They're 1-3 and if Brett Favre can play, they'll most likely be 1-4 because Brett Favre is invincible on Monday nights. The panic button has been hit. Tennessee has gone from having the best run defense in 2003 to the worst this year. That's why they are 1-3.
Kurt Warner is back. He hasn't looked this good since 2001.
San Diego is doing a helluva job stopping the run. If you can stop the run and run the football effectively, you have a chance to win in this league. That's what the Chargers are doing.
I dont understand it they lost their best Defensive player (Marcellus Wiley) to the Cowboys. Boy, Tomlinson looks ready to make his first playoff appearance because the Chargers with old man Schottenheimer and a stupid front office look poised to make a run for the superbowl. How strange? If I went back in time and told my preseason self that New York would go into Green Bay and win, and beat both Washington and Cleveland I wouldnt have believed myself.
I really don't think they are going to the playoffs.
Marcellus Wiley, their best defensive player? I think you mean worst defensive player. I've been telling you all summer. There is a reason they got rid of him. He hasn't even registered a sack the Cowboys yet.
The reason why the Chargers are great against the run is because they have a mammoth at nose tackle, Jamal Williams. I like their linebackers as run stuffers (not pass defenders) as well. Randall Godfrey has always been proficient against the run. Donnie Edwards is a great outside linebacker. Steve Foley and Ben Leber are pretty solid too.
Replacing Wiley at DE is Igor Olshansky, another run stuffer.
The Chargers have a top three run defense in the NFL now. Too bad they can't defend the pass.
I forgot about Godfrey but you cant tell me anyone else on that Defense was better than him. The Chargers probably wont make the playoffs but if they do get in they will go really far.
That actually is possible. Denver can't run the football, Kansas City will have to score 27+ points or more every game to win and Oakland will be turning the football over far too much (Kerry Collins). What a weak division.
Its like the NFC East think how weak the NFC East was in 1999. Now it is a powerhouse. The AFC West was a force to be reckoned with in 2002, now it is just a little better than the AFC North.
It's amazing how the landscape of the NFL changes so quickly. You're right about the AFC West and NFC East. Two years ago, the AFC South was terrible and now it's one of the toughest divisions in football.
It is shocking to me how quickly the AFC West has declined just 2 years ago it was probably the toughest in football and now you can make a legitimate argument that it is the worst.
The NFC West proved yesterday it is not so bad. NFC South is pretty bad, but Atlanta is good, Carolina is mediocre, It depends on which New Orleans you are talking about winners in St. Louis or losers at home against Tampa, Tampa is bad but every division has one bad team. AFC North is the worst.
Chicago will continue their rise-next year. Without a quarterback, they'll have trouble winning games. I still think Minnesota will have a meltdown at the end of the year, that will enable Detroit to win the North.
Minnesota may meltdown but I am begginning to wonder. Even if they dont meltdown, I still think Detroit could win. Becuase Roy Williams is the next Randy Moss. I wonder about Joey Harrington, though. He may not be good enough.
I like Joey Harrington. He's developing slowly but he is the distinguished leader of that young team and the players look up to him. Remember, Minnesota started 6-0 last year and seemed invincible. Yet, they went on to lose against the Giants, Raiders, Chargers, Bears and Cardinals.
That is like a once every 20 years deal though. Joey Harrington may be a good leader. Don Meredith was a good leader, but he never won us a championship. Harrington mey become good, but as you are saying he is very slow. Roethlisberger comes in and is automatically a starting Quarterback, no learning process just a strong arm and a good brain. Why can't Joey Harrington do the same.
Think about what Roethlisberger has around him in Pittsburgh. A solid offensive line, a great running game (Duce Staley is 6th in rushing) and three excellent wide receivers. Harrington? His offensive line stunk until this season, he has never had any sort of running game and has not had a great receiver until Roy Williams was drafted (Charles Rogers missed most of 2003).
WHAT! (Spitting out my orange juice) (Coughing) What about Charles Rogers and Roy Williams. Either one of them would be the best Wide Reciever on the Steelers. I think youve lost your mind, dude!
Charles Rogers has barely even played in this league because of collar bone injuries and Roy Williams is just a rookie. How can you say they are better than Hines Ward or Plaxico Burress? I don't think you've ever watched a Steelers game. Hines Ward is on par with Randy Moss, Terrell Owens and Marvin Harrison. He catches everything, he gets open easily and is the best blocking WR in the NFL. Think differently? In the past three years, no one has more catches than Ward except for Harrison.
Plaixico Burress and Hines Ward are AVERAGE! Randy Moss may be the best Wide Receiver of all time, Terrell Owens is a phenomenon, and Marvin Harrison could have made Quincy make the Pro Bowl. Better yet, Make CHAD HUTCHINSON make the Pro-Bowl. How dare you compare those two with Moss, Owens, and Harrison there is no one even close to those three. I cant believe you said that. Ward is very good. He is not average, he is good but he is NO WHERE NEAR were Owens, Harrison, and Moss are! Buress is very average. Terry Glenn, and Keyshawn are both better. Maybe even Antonio Bryant.
Have you ever seen Hines Ward play? Given a choice of Moss, Owens, Harrison or Ward to start a franchise with, I'd have to heavily consider Ward. Not only does he catch 100 passes every season. Not only does he register about 1,200 yds a season, not only does he not drop any passes (unlike Owens), he is the best blocking WR in pro football.
Yeah, Burress is some average receiver. Some average receiver who had 1,325 yards in 2001 and is on pace for 1,200 this season. I'm sure Antonio Bryant could do that. Not.
You'd consider it, bull crap. Realistically, you know you would choose Harrison.
Antonio Bryant couldnt have. BUT QUINCY MORGAN CAN!!!!!!!!!
Im so excited, I cant believe that the Browns were so stupid. Morgan is great, and Bryant is mearly okay. I cant believe that Butch Davis was so stupid. With some work, we may have the best recievers in the NFL!!!!!!!!!!
Morgan is a pretty good wide receiver, but I'm sure you'll find out that he drops a lot of easy passes. He has never broken 1,000 yards, but you can make the argument that he has never had a good quarterback throwing him the football.
Yeah. We had another diappointing game this Sunday, that pretty much eliminated us from the playoffs, but I am very happy with Morgan. Next year we will dominate.
