A quote from Walter in the new top story about the Jets.
"All of the questions Jets fans had about the team’s offense were briskly answered Saturday in the preseason opener against the Lions.
Well, except for the most important question.
Jay Fielder looked prolific as a backup signal caller, completing 7 of 9 passes for 69 yards; Curtis Martin apparently made another visit to the Fountain of Youth, as the 32-year-old running back carried the ball four times for 20 yards, showcasing the type of burst that his 25-year-old peers maintain; the right side of the offensive line -- guard Brandon Moore and tackle Adrian Jones -- were flawless in pass protection, despite being inexperienced.
What’s missing? Chad Pennington stood on the sidelines with a clipboard in his hands.
Pennington, recovering from a torn rotator cuff, is scheduled to throw in both of the team’s practice sessions Monday.
“He’s feeling more comfortable throwing the ball and I just want to get him going a little bit more and he wants to do that too, so we’ll see where he’s at,” said Herman Edwards.
Despite Fiedler’s brilliance on Saturday, the Jets can kiss their playoff dreams goodbye if Pennington is not 100 percent for most of the regular season.
Pennington missed six games in 2003, causing the Jets to finish with a 6-10 record. The Jets were 2-4 with Vinny Testaverde under center, and Fielder is not much better than him.
Just ask Miami; they haven’t been to the playoffs in ages."
Jay Fiedler looked great on friday. He is a solid backup. And Wanstedt messed him up. He's actually wearing Green and White instead of getting sacked by Green and White.
Chad Pennington will be 100% and will destroy the New England Patriots. Jay Fiedler sucked in Miami because the Dolfins were horrible. By the way, he's home.
The Jets will go 16-0 and will win the super bowl.
The Jets are better than the Patriots. Can't Hackett is gone and Hendu is here.
This is the Jets year. No one can stop us
Anoter quote from walter in his week 1 prediction.
"Kerry Collins vs. Bill Belichick's defense. Hmmm. The sage in the gray Patriots hoodies gets five months to game plan against Collins, Randy Moss and the Raiders offense. Oakland acquired Lamont Jordan this off-season, but any attempt at running the ball will be negated by Richard Seymour, Ty Warren and New England's stellar defense. The lack of a potent rushing attack will place Collins in many long-yardage situations, allowing Rodney Harrison, Eugene Wilson and the Patriots secondary to pick off a few passes. Covering Moss is a problem for anyone, but New England has four stellar cornerbacks--Tyrone Poole, Asante Samuel, Randall Gay and Duane Starks. They can shut down Jerry Porter and Ronald Curry. Moss? Leave that up to Belichick to figure out.
As long as Raiders defensive linemen Ted Washington, Derrick Burgess and Tyler Brayton are healthy, Oakland should be able to stop the run all season. That goes for their season opener against New England. However, the Raiders secondary beyond Charles Woodson is young and inexperienced. Corners Nnamdi Asomugha, Stanford Routt and Fabian Washington will not be prepared to cover the Patriots wide receivers. Tom Brady should be able to hit his receivers all game long."
The Raiders will defeat the Patriots 41-0.
Yet another from Walt predicting the Jets-Chiefs week 1 game.
"Chad Pennington is a huge question mark at this point. Will his shoulder be ready after surgery? If you believe he will not be ready, Kansas City is a huge value pick as a three-point favorite. Regardless, the Chiefs no longer have the worst defense in the NFL. They acquired DE Carlos Hall, MLB Kendrell Bell, OLB Derrick Johnson, CB Patrick Surtain and S Sammy Knight this off-season. Curtis Martin will be able to garner more than 125 rushing yards, but Kansas City's new and improved back seven should be able to contain New York's passing attack, regardless of whether Pennington is in the lineup or not.
The Chiefs may actually have a better defense than the Jets do. New York has nothing at defensive tackle and their secondary is mediocre, at best. They have no chance of stopping the trio of Trent Green, Priest Holmes and Tony Gonzalez. Expect about 200 rushing yards and three touchdowns from Holmes. If the Chiefs punt more than twice, I'll be shocked."
The Chiefs are not the better team. We will beat them 70-0. The Chiefs have no chance.
