I dont think that they are just forgetting about 2004, I dont think Parcells lets his players forget about games, let alone seasons. But just the playoffs is not good enough for this team. This team needs at the least, to win the East and make the Conference Championship. Last year I had Dallas finishing 8-8, 3rd in the NFC East. I had New York at 12-4 and Philadelphia at 10-6 ahead of us, but I had Washington being 5-11 which came to frutition. After the New York game I had us being 10-6 in a three way tie with Philadelphia and New York, and finishing 2nd since we would sweep the Giants, then after winning 5 straight, I had us winning the East with a 12-4 record. After we beat Carolina I had us winning our next 5 games and going 13-3. Then we went back down to Earth. But in the begginning I picked 8-8, and they exceeded my expectations. So I hope they do this year too. But last year, I think we kind of snuck up on New York, and Philly.
Dallas did sneak up on everyone and that Monday Night victory against New York was really impressive. I was very happy about that since I had $50 on Dallas to either win or to lose by less than 7½.
I'm not saying that Parcells and Jones agreed to just forget about 2004 and go 4-12. I just feel that they are concentrating more on 2005 and if they don't qualify for the playoffs this season, it won't be such a big deal.
Well, I definetly agree that they are concentrating on '05 more than '04, but I really just dont believe that Parcells would just give up on a season, he wants to win more than anyone Ive ever met.
I know and I agree with that. Parcells will try to lead them back into the playoffs, but it won't be a huge disappointment in his and Jones' minds if they miss the postseason.
In Jones mind I totally aggree. But also this came through Jones mind "I can do it without Jimmy, noone really knows how much I contribute to this team, he thinks he can take credit for coaching this team, well hell Ill fire him" so dont think that Jones is in too much power. From what I see, they do what Bill wants. Everytime I say that people say "well what about Eddie George?" but here is exactly what happened
Jones: "Hey Bill I think we should get Eddie George"
Parcells: " I am not really interested but we have alot of Cap so we can go ahead and get him if he doesnt ask for too much."
Jones: "Thank you"
If the Cowboys had money trouble, trust me Bill would have put his foot down on getting George, but the end of Off Season was nearing, and we didnt get hardly anyone, so we had alot of room and Bill let Jerry do it. Do you remember when Jerry fired Jimmy? Jerry did it because he made a toast to all of HIS hardwork in building this team, so Jimmy and Jimmy's family did not raise their glasses. So Jones fired him. If Jones built that team, we wouldnt have retained Emmitt, because that very year, Emmitt was holding out and Jerry didnt want to pay him, but Jimmy convinced him to. If Jones would have listened to Jimmy in the first place we would have been 14-2 that season. The '93 Cowboys were better than the '92 Cowboys, but we didnt finish with a better record because Emmitt missed the first two games because Jerry wouldnt pay him, and we went 0-2. But anyway, after Jerry fired Jimmy he signed a "private" contract that if Jimmy would keep quiet and claim that he stepped down he would get a million bucks. Because if it was public knowledge, that he just fired the coach that won back to back Superbowls, he would look like a fool (which he is). I gaurantee you when he hired Bill he signed a contract similar to that that stated Bill needs to let him keep the title of head of football ops, and General Manager, and Bill would get a Million bucks. But on your subject I would bet you anything Bill would be angry if we didnt make the Playoffs.
Heck, Bill was angry after that shutout against the Houston Texans. Of course he'd be mad. It'll be difficult getting to the playoffs without Quincy however.
I still dont think it will be that difficult. The Redskins do not know how to play together yet, the Giants have a terrible Defense, and a terrible O Line, so Ellis, Wiley, Coakley, Williams, and Nguyen will stop the Quarterback postion where New York is powerful. We could shut them out both times we play them, while Philadelphia's Offense will be stopped by our Defense and Julius Jones will move through Philly's D with ease.
Jon Jansen's injury is huge. That is a three victory swing right there. As for the Giants, they won't even be in it this year. I have a friend who is a Giants fan, and after the game against Carolina, he IMed me and said "man, my team stinks." I guess he didn't read this site because I am predicting them to go 2-14 (a few more wins may be added soon - Eli Manning is impressive).
Julius Jones will keep Dallas-Philly games close, but can Vinny Testaverde beat the Eagles? I really don't think so. Maybe in Dallas, but definitely not in Philly.
Do you really even think that Vinny will still be out there by the time we play in Philly. Even if he is, I still think that we could sweep the Eagles.
I think Vinny will still be there during their first matchup, but not their second. I don't think there is any way that the Cowboys sweep the Eagles. I think there is more of a chance that the Eagles sweep the Cowboys. That will change next year.
Are you out of your mind!? Dallas Defense will shut down the Philly Offense. We beat them in Texas once. And if it werent for Quincy Carter, we would have won in Philly. By the way, did you here the Jets signed Quincy Carter? But anyway tell me why you think Dallas will be beaten by the Eagles this year.
Dallas has one of the best run defenses in the NFL. The Eagles do not run the ball. Against the pass, that's another story. I don't think Dallas will be able to put pressure on Donovan McNabb, and I don't think they have the corners to cover Terrell Owens, L.J. Smith and the Eagles' receivers. Terrence Newman is the #1 corner, but I watched some film of the two Panthers-Cowboys games, and Jake Delhomme was working on Newman all game long. I don't have much faith in Pete Hunter either.
Listen, Newman will be even better than he was last year. Last year HE WAS A ROOKIE! That only shows that Newman is human. Remember Ray Lewis was worked on all day long against the Titans too. And he is best defenseive player in the league. I think Newman should have been Defensive rookie of the year. I think one day he will be a Hall of Famer. A Pro Bowl Rookie in one of the toughest positions in the NFL, is almost unheard of. Newman is off to a good start. I really dont think Donovan is smart enough to micromanage Newman like Delhomme did. Want Prove? He didnt do it in either games last year. And if Bill is smart, Roy will cover Owens, not Newman. By the way, the Eagles dont run the ball? I thought they ran more than they passed, Fricko? Plus Owens is your only good reciever. Walt, listen you really need to get a tape of the Cowboys/Raiders game. We put pressure on Rich Gannon all day long. Plus, you will be shocked at Wiley. He was doing so good, the Raiders had to double team him. It frustrates me so badly that Parcells doesnt play Roy Williams or Keyshawn Johnson at all during the preseason. Hopefully he will this week on Monday Night Football. But I highly doubt it. Ever since, the Eagles sent a spy here to camp 3 weeks ago, Bill has been really paranoid. By the way did you hear about that, Walt? But I aggree on Hunter. But he only got burned once, and he made 2 big plays. You are very wrong about our D Line, and our O Line both are doing great. We should annihlate Philly in Dallas. And I would say were favorites to win in Philly.
Well, I'll get to see that D-Line against a pretty good Tennesee O-Line on Monday Night (which is the day I move back to Penn State actually). I also think Newman will be pretty good, but do you think anyone can cover Owens one-on one? Now that they're emphasizing that illegal contact rule, he'll have to be double teamed every game, which will open up Freddie Mitchell and Todd Pinkston, who will be covered one-on-one by lesser corners.
Like I said before, Dallas could beat the Eagles at home. I just cant see Vinny Testaverde beating Philly. The Eagles will put 8 men in the box, forcing Vinny to beat them. I just don't think he can do it. Maybe I'm wrong.
Well, I think Roy Williams could definetly take Terrell Owens one on one. And Newman and Darren would both give him a run for his money. I guess you completely disaggree with me on our assumption with Testaverde. I think he has been a pro too long to make mistakes. I also think he can fool Philly's young and foolish defense. But whether he gets the job done is all on our Wideouts. If they can catch the quick passes he throws to them, then we will sweep Philly.
John Harbaugh Philadelphia's Special Teams coordinator was caught spying at Cowboys camp in Oxnard, California. He was wearing a dark green shirt, white tie, and khaki slacks, Parcells recognized him and asked him what he was doing there and he said he wanted to try out for the team. Parcells turned him into the police and he said he was just a fan. He was suspended from the NFL for a week of training camp, and he was fined. Im not much for signs, but look at all the signs that Dallas is going to beat Philadelphia this year. Dallas rcovering the Onside kick, catching the spy, beating yall for the first time since 1999. It is eery.
That's crazy that John Harbaugh was caught spying at Dallas' camp. I didn't hear anything about that.
I never liked Vinny as a Pro, but he played well when he was coached under Bill Parcells. But, I wouldn't call Philadelphia's defense foolish. Jim Johnson is among the best defensive coordinators in the league, and given what he had last year, he did a pretty good job.
No, you misunderstood me. Jim Johnson is not foolish, Philadelphia's young players are foolish. But I would take Zim over him, any day of the week. I think he blitzes too much. I aggree that Vinny is overrated. But I think he was so bad last year, because he is not made for the West Coast Offense. I think Herm Edwards is a great coach, but he should have changed his offense to fit Vinny better last year.
You never heard about Harbaugh being caught spying on Dallas? They had it on NFL Live. Back then we didnt know who did it, but they said a spy was caught in Cowboys Camp. dallascowboys.com said that it was Philly's Special Teams Coordinator who was spying, it happened like a month ago.
Watched the Cowboys-Titans game last night. I have to say that I'm really impressed with how Bill Parcells continues to get the best out of quarterbacks. Vinny T looked great. I'll have to give Dallas a few more wins when I adjust my season previews in two days.
After we lost Carter I adjusted my season preview to Dallas losing in the Divisionals against Seattle. Now I say 14-2 which is better than what I predicted when we had Carter. I say we lose in Baltimore, and in Seattle and beat everyone else. With all that has happened and now all 4 teams in the East are even better than I predicted, I will make you a prediction. The team that emerges from the East, will win the NFC. Whether it is Dallas, Philladelphia, or Washington They are going all the way. At the moment I say it is a two way race between Dallas and Philadelphia. I think this year's Wahington is last year's Dallas. Start out strong, end out soft. Only Washington is strong on Offense and weak on Defense. Last year Dallas was VERY strong on Defense and soft on Offense. But I say at the end of the year Washington has the #1 Offense, and the #1 rushing team, Dallas is the #1 Defense against the run, and overall. So do you favor us to win the East now?
You'll know who wins the NFC East by tomorrow. I have to go through every game on the schedule. I don't know about 14-2, however. That's a stretch.
I beg to differ that Washington is bad on defense. They added Cornelius Griffin and Phillip Daniels to the offensive line, Marcus Washington to the linebacker spot, who joins LaVaar Arrington, and they have Shawn Springs, Fred Smoot and Sean Taylor at DB. They aren't a great defense, but I wouldn't call it a bad defense either.
With all of that being said, I don't like the Redskins' playoff chances this year, mainly because of Jon Jansen's injury. He's their best offensive lineman and he protected Mark Brunell's blind side.
Yeah, but how many teams get burnt by St. Louis on their carpet? They're pretty impossible to stop. With all of their new players, they'll need some time to gel. They'll get it going by the midway point of the season.
The Kansas City Chiefs Defense didnt get burned by the St. Louis Offense! Back in 2001, the Dallas Cowboys Defense (which at that time let me tell you was a miserable D) didnt get burned by the St. Louis Offense.
When I said "burnt by St. Louis on their carpet", I meant burnt by St. Louis at St. Louis. The Rams are a totally different team at home. They're Mr. Hyde in their dome and Dr. Jekyll on the road.
Dallas didn't even play St. Louis in 2001. You're thinking of 2002, when the Rams couldn't even beat a highschool team. Kurt Warner was hurt, the offensive line was in shambles and the defense stunk.
