Was. But I think people are starting to catch on. If he makes another half-ass decision this year he will be fired, Bulger will be cut and they will find a legit QB and HC.
Martz isnt only dumb, he doesnt know what his strategy is. One week, "fast and furious". Next week "conservative running, "fast and furious", "consevative running". You get the picture he doesnt know what he thinks. In a way he is the John Kerry of football. Or as Dan Lebatard sais "the Mrs. Doubtfire of football".
Exactly. When I'm watching Rams games, whether its on TV or on the internet, I always find myself yelling "run the ball, dammit." It makes no sense. He doesn't run the ball and yet he drafts a running back in the first round of the draft.
While the Rams have about 3 years left in Marshall Faulk. It is totally insane. Why do you draft a running back in the first round. And when a pretty damn good crop of players is coming up in the draft. Unreal it is a toss-up for who is the worst coach. Dennis Erickson, or Mike Martz?
Well, at least the Rams have been to the playoffs under Martz. I'd go with Erickson because he has driven that team into the ground. You also have to consider Jim Haslett, Jim Mora Jr. and Dave Wannstedt.
You could consider Martz, Erickson, and Mora. But, I dont see why you hate Jim Haslett? The Saints were terrible before he got there. Now they are in the hunt every year. Wannstedt, I totally agree terrible coach. If the Dolphins still had Jimmy they would have won the Super Bowl in 2001, and possibly 2002, Wannstedt holds them down. But, he has some spurts of really smart decisions. In the Miami/Pittsburgh game, it was starting to rain so he called a Timeout so it would get really muddy and the winds would get harder. So Pittsburgh missed the Field Goal. That was a good decision.
Jim Haslett took over Mike Ditka's team. Ditka is a fraud, but Haslett is a bigger fraud. Think about it. He's a defensive coach and his defense has stunk since 2001. His team always chokes, always loses to inferior opponents, always seems unprepared, always makes countless penalties. With the talent they have had over the past few years, they should have been in the playoffs a few times instead of just once, in 2000.
Outrageous! Even for you! Calling Ditka a fraud is like calling Tom Landry a fraud. Just because they were bad when they were old doesnt mean that they were frauds. You really should apologize for that statement.
Walt, here is the point they werent winning when he got there! If they hire anyone except Bill Parcells or Jimmy, they would not be as good as they are now. He is better than you give him credit for.
Well Dick Vermeil is also a dinosaur, yet, the Rams won the Super Bowl and the Chiefs went 13-3 last season. The Saints stunk because Ditka flat out stinks.
No holes at all. I thought Ditka was a fraud in Chicago because it was Buddy Ryan's defense that was responsible for that Super Bowl. I never thought Ditka was a good coach. Never.
You just said three posts ago, that Landry and Gibbs were great coaches you just thought Ditka was bad. That is a huge hole. Buddy Ryan was a brilliant coordinator. But, Ryan was more of a fraud. How much did he do for the Eagles? Ryan was a fraud. Ditka is a legend.
What hole? There are no holes. Gibbs, Landry = great coaches. Ditka = fraud. That's that.
Ryan was never a good coach but he was a great coordinator and was the reason for Chicago's success, much like Marvin Lewis was responsible for the Ravens Super Bowl in 2000, and not Brian Billick.
Billick is a great coach. He is in the Top Ten while Marvin Lewis is highly overrated. It wasnt that he is a good caoch because Cinci was 8-8, it was that the Bengals old coach was terrible. Like McNabb, no offense to anyone but I think people say how good Marvin is because he is black.
Billick is an idiot. He has done nothing since Marvin has left. Think about it this way. Billick is an offensive coach whose offense was never good in Baltimore. It was the defense that won. Whose defense was that? Simple answer.
I think Tony Kornheiser said it on PTI. If Marvin Lewis wins 6 games in Cincinnati, he's Vince Lombardi. Well, he won eight with a pretty bad team. It's impossible to win in Cincy; not because the previous coaches were terrible (Dick LeBeau is a good coach in my mind) but because owner Mike Brown is not committed to winning.
I agree on their owner, but I disagree. Lewis is not as good as people say he is, and in this off-season he made a few terrible decisions. One that if I owned that team with how their season has gone into the tank, I would consider firing him.
I agree that Lewis made questionable decisions this offseason with naming Palmer the starter and drafting Chris Perry. He is a terrible GM but I still think he's a brilliant coach. Horrible GM, solid coach.
Naming Palmer the starter wasnt a GM decision that was a coach decision. And most coaches even non GM coaches make decisions on draft day, that was Lewis's fault on both account if I was the owner of the Bengals I would seriously consider firing him.
You don't think Lewis was pressured into making that decision? You can't keep a #1 pick on the bench. The same situation is going to occur in San Diego. Although Drew Brees is far superior to Phillip Rivers, the rookie will have to start next year.
Remember, Drew Brees led the Chargers to a 6-1 record in 2002. A rough schedule and those fires in San Diego may have affected him last year; he was downright brutal in 2003. But, when I vote for the Pro Bowl in a few weeks, I'm voting for him, assuming he keeps this up.
