Well the Jets are certaintly going to lose this week but other than that they really dont have many tough teams. Just by winning the games they should they should win 6 or 7.
1. Cincinnati (3-0) - It was odd how the Bengals won that game in Pittsburgh. It wasn't like a hard-fought down-in-the-dirt game. It appeared that Pittsburgh played their hardest and Cincinnati was kind of complacent and the Bengals just found a way to win in the end. That's not a good omen for Pittsburgh that their 100% is not as good as Cincinnati's 50%.
2. Chicago (3-0) - The Bears win in Minnesota was pretty sloppy but keep in mind that it was against a really good team.
3. Indianapolis (3-0) - I have to admit, I did not think the Colts would be this good.
4. Jacksonville (2-1) - If the Jaguars are going to take that next step this year then they have to beat Indianapolis eventually.
5. Seattle (3-0) - Two gripes with the Seahawks- 1. They were up 42-3 and had dominated New York to that point, but its still never good to give up 27 straight points to your opponent to close out the game. The Seahawks should be discouarged about the way they laid down after they got a big lead. 2. The duo of Jinxes and Curses may be on the horizon- the Seahawks won't win for long without Shaun Alexander.
6. Baltimore (3-0) - The Ravens are winning ugly. They better know that the effort they've been giving the past 2 weeks won win against the recharged Chargers this week.
7. San Diego (2-0) - Looks like the Broncos are better than they looked at first, San Diego actually will have to work for the AFC West title.
8. Dallas (1-1) - The Philly game will be a true test but we aren't going to learn much about this team against Tennessee.
9. New Orleans (3-0) - The Saints look like a playoff team.
10. Atlanta (2-1) - The Falcons had no shot of winning that game against the Saints this week. With that said, they still did lose their domination over New Orleans, which could be a much greater ordeal than it appears if the two are going to go toe-to-toe for the division.
11. Philadelphia (2-1) - The Eagles are kicking themselves for choking away the New York game last week. Had they won they would be 3-0 in a division with teams who are 1-1, 1-2, and 0-3. That would be huge.
12. Denver (2-1) - Looks like that near home loss to the Chiefs last week was a wake-up call for Denver. Jake Plummer's job is safe for at least two more weeks (they have a bye this week).
13. Minnesota (2-1) - Looks like the Vikings are going to have to win the wildcard in a really competitive NFC if they are to make the playoffs.
14. Pittsburgh (1-2) - As aforementioned, the Steelers just looked like the clearly less-talented team on Sunday.
15. New England (2-1) - What's wrong with the Patriots? Luckily for them, they could win that division with an 8-8 record.
16. NY Giants (1-2) - I am shocked how bad the Giants played against Seattle when the Seahawks actually cared about the game. Are the Seahawks even better than they were last year or are the Giants one of the worst teams in the NFC?
17. St. Louis (2-1) - So far the Rams have won 2 horribly sloppy games against good teams that didn't bring their A-Game and lost one game to the 49ers. They aren't going anywhere.
18. Carolina (1-2) - We've talked the Panthers to death. They're horribly dissapointing.
19. Washington (1-2) - The good news- the Redskins finally won their first game in a big way. The bad news- they did it against a horrible non-conference opponent.
20. Arizona (1-2) - The Cardinals' playoff hopes are doomed. Matt Leinart would have to give them a Ben Roethlisberger-like performance and Kurt Warner can't do it.
21. NY Jets (2-1) - The Bills outplay the Patriots in New England, the Patriots dominate the Jets in New York and then the Jets beat the Bills in Buffalo. Is anyone else confused about the AFC East?
22. Kansas City (0-2) - Kansas City might be better than we thought. They lost to the best team in football in Week 1 and then almost beat a pretty good team in Week 2.
23. Buffalo (1-2) - The Bills have to be disappointed. They give stellar performances in Weeks 1 and 2 only to lose to the Jets at home in Week 3.
24. San Francisco (1-2) - One more year, one more blowout loss to the Eagles.
25. Miami (1-2) - The Dolphins have gone from a team that was a popular pick to make the Super Bowl before the season started to a team that is one of the worst the league has to offer.
26. Green Bay (1-2) - Green Bay's win in Detroit proved just one thing- they're the best of the worst.
27. Tampa Bay (0-3) - Looks like Gruden's days as a pirate are over.
28. Cleveland (0-3) - The Browns are giving a solid effort every week but they're just not that good.
29. Detroit (0-3) - With Green Bay's win in Detroit, the Lions proved that they, not the Packers, are the fourth member of the "We have to work hard to be this bad" club.
30. Tennessee (0-3) - How did Miami let a team as bad as this hang around with them? The Dolphins must really be bad.
31. Houston (0-3) - Houston's defense has given up an average of 33 points a game so far this season. Meanwhile, Reggie Bush and the Saints are 3-0.
32. Oakland (0-2) - The Raiders had an intra-squad scrimmage this week during their bye and I heard that both the offense and defense lost to each other. I wonder how that happened.
Im not buying it. They were a missed field goal away from starting 0-3, and it was against a HORRIBLE team that may not win more than 3 games this year. I think the Saints beat Carolina this week. Plus, I dont know who I would put them ahead of if they were to be higher. The Rams, no matter how sloppy it was, have beaten 2 pretty darn good teams so far this season. The Giants have looked better than Carolina in the first 3 games, and beyond that I think every other team I have ahead of them are just clearly better than them.
Remember, the Panthers held a 17-0 lead. They simply got too relaxed and let Tampa Bay into the game. And it's not like the Buccaneers are a really bad team.
They're not "really bad" but they are pretty bad and no matter how the Panthers did it, they still needed a last second field goal to avoid starting 0-3.
Yeah, but Tampa Bay is still a good team! They still have a great defense. They had a 17-0 lead. Don't worry about the Panthers; they'll win big this week.
The Panthers nearly blew another game this week when they let the Saints score easily on a touchdown and 2 point conversion. I still don't think that Carolina is going to make the playoffs.
That killed me. Well, not killed. I bet heavily on all three of my Double Money Picks (Houston, Carolina and Atlanta). I wish I could have swept the board.
How do you allow an 80-yard touchdown while playing prevent defense?
Poor tackling on the part of Colin Branch. It looked like he was trying to strip the ball instead of making the easy tackle. I was cussing up a storm when that happened.
1. Chicago (4-0) - I don't know which part to be more impressed about, the Bears holding Seattle to 6 points or scoring 37 on them.
2. Baltimore (4-0) - The Ravens are becoming New England II, all they do is win close games.
3. Indianapolis (4-0) - It's amazing how the Colts haven't missed a beat without Edgerrin James. If keep winning like this they may win homefield advantage and if that happens then they may be representing the AFC in Miami, but I still dont think Peyton will ever actually win the whole thing.
4. New England (3-1) - Walt called it, New England went into Cincinnati and blew out the Bengals.
5. Dallas (2-1) - I've got my popcorn ready, TO. Time to show us why we signed you.
6. Philadelphia (3-1) - The Eagles were clearly looking ahead to us in their game against Green Bay. Personally, Im just glad that teams are looking ahead to us again.
7. Cincinnati (3-1) - I guess Cincinnati underestimated the Patriots. That'll be the last time that anybody underestimates New England following a loss while Tom Brady's on the field and Bill Belichick's on the sideline.
8. San Diego (2-1) - The Chargers lost to a good team on the road but isn't that to be expected of a rookie quarterback?
9. Jacksonville (2-2) - The way Jacksonville has played this season its amazing that they're just 2-2.
10. Denver (2-1) - Monster matchup in Denver this week. We'll learn about this team on Monday Night against the Ravens.
11. New Orleans (3-1) - The Saints were emotionally drained for their game against Carolina so they lost but I just don't think that their dominating win over Carolina was just an aberration. They're still a really good team.
12. Atlanta (3-1) - Why didn't Jim Mora Jr. scrap the West Coast Offense a long time ago?
13. Seattle (3-1) - Matt Hasselbeck is horribly overrated. I know it was against the Bears defense but it is quite apparent that the Seahawks are a one man team for Shaun Alexander.
14. Carolina (2-2) - 2 horrible losses for Carolina and 2 close wins that they nearly let get away from them.
15. Washington (2-2) - It took a while but the Redskins have finally found themselves. The NFC East is developing into quite the interesting division.
16. Pittsburgh (1-2) - Gosh there are a lot of good games this coming week. Among them are Steelers/Chargers where if the champs lose then they fall to 1-3.
17. St. Louis (3-1) - The Rams are very much like Baltimore in that they are continually winning close games, however, unlike Baltimore the Rams are winning ugly against horrible teams.
18. NY Jets (2-2) - I dont think anyone saw the Jets being this good (except maybe Pennington2Coles ).
19. NY Giants (1-2) - If the Giants lose to the 'Skins this week then they're done. However, I don't think they will.
20. Minnesota (2-2) - What's happened in Minnesota? The Vikings have suddenly turned to crap.
21. Buffalo (2-2) - Buffalo is predictably unpredictable.
22. Kansas City (1-2) - The Chiefs' 41-0 win was quite impressive but there are just so many good teams in the league right now that I dont know where to put them in these rankings.
23. Arizona (1-3) - The Cardinals' season has quickly changed from a run for the playoffs to a rebuilding year. Only Arizona could pull that off.
24. Cleveland (1-3) - Congrats to Cleveland on their first victory but how do you fall down 21-3 to the Raiders?
25. San Francisco (1-3) - The 49ers gave up 41 points to a team that had a grand total of 16 on the season going into the game and was starting their backup quarterback. Looks like we celebrated the Niners' return too quickly.
26. Tampa Bay (0-3) - Did a witch cast a spell on Super Bowl XXXVII or something? Maybe that would explain why the Raiders and Bucs have both only scored 27 points so far in 3 games and are a combined 0-6.
27. Green Bay (1-3) - I learned three things from the Green Bay/Philly game. 1. The Eagles were looking ahead. 2. The Packers suck. 3. Mike McCarthy looks like a heavier Bill Romanowski.
28. Detroit (0-4) - The Lions are clearly getting better but they still have a long ways to go.
29. Houston (1-3) - Miami must really suck to lose to this sorry excuse for a team.......
30. Miami (1-3) - and nearly lose to the Titans..........
31. Tennessee (0-4) - who finally got rid of Kerry Collins yet still lost 45-14.
32. Oakland (0-3) - Its sad to see one of the NFL's premiere franchises being this bad, at the same time, it's kind of funny.
The reason I have Miami ahead of Tennessee is because the Dolphins nearly lost to the Titans at home. If that game were in Tennessee, the Dolphins might have lost. They're both pretty pathetic though.
Its amazing how bad they are. Had the Dolphins gone after Drew Brees instead of Culpepper I think Miami would be undefeated right now going into their game with New England.
1. Chicago (5-0) - This Bears defense, as good as it is, isn't as good as the '85 version but the offense is much better.
2. Philadelphia (4-1) - The Eagles would have a 2 1/2 game lead in the NFC East had they just held on against the Giants in Week 2.
3. New England (4-1) - The Pats may very well be headed to their fourth Super Bowl championship in six years. If that happens, that means they would have matched the mark of both the 90's Cowboys and 70's Steelers in one dynasty. That would be amazing.
4. Indianapolis (5-0) - This is not a great football team. They have had to play both the Jags and Giants, but c'mon! One of those games was Peyton against his little brother and the other was a home game against their division rivals. They couldn't afford to lose either game.
5. Cincinnati (3-1) - This should make for an interesting divisional race with Baltimore.
6. Denver (3-1) - Is there any point in predicting a Broncos game? Only they know if they're going to show up on any given Sunday.
7. San Diego (3-1) - The Steelers record speaks for itself but Im still impressed by San Diego's win. They trailed 10-0 to the champs and they came back to win.
8. Jacksonville (3-2) - The Jags are a very good team. They just beat a playoff-hopeful 41-0!
9. Baltimore (4-1) - This should serve as a lesson to Steve McNair. You need to start playing BEFORE the last drive of the game.
10. Carolina (3-2) - The Panthers have finally turned it around but they won't be able to sleep walk into the playoffs like they did last year this year.
11. Seattle (3-1) - Huge game this week for the Super Bowl losers. They can't let the Rams regain the domination in this series.
12. New Orleans (4-1) - I was impressed by Reggie Bush this week, but not by the Saints as a whole.
13. Atlanta (3-1) - Its a shame but I really cant see the Falcons having much of a shot at the playoffs in a division with the Saints and Panthers.
14. Dallas (2-2) - We need a quarterback horribly.
15. St. Louis (4-1) - If the Rams beat Seattle I'll stop putting them so low but they have yet to beat anyone good.
16. NY Giants (2-2) - It looks like the Giants can't beat anyone outside of the NFC East.
17. Minnesota (3-2) - What's happened to Minnesota the past 3 games? If they played anyone other than the Lions or Raiders, they would have lost this week.
18. Washington (2-3) - I was surprised by the lack of effort on Washington's part this week. They're under .500 again.
19. Kansas City (2-2) - Trent who?
20. Pittsburgh (1-3) - Big Ben just hasn't looked the same this year. He looks kind of disinterested in football.
21. NY Jets (2-3) - Jets fans shouldnt be too discouraged. As Herm Edwards said after that playoff game with the Colts a few years ago, they caught the Jaguars "on a bad day".
22. Buffalo (2-3) - Same as the Jets. Except when playing the Bears, every day is a "bad day".
23. San Francisco (2-3) - Somebody had to win.
24. Arizona (1-4) - If the Cardinals retain Matt Leinart then they're in for a bright future, but can anyone see the Cardinals keeping a good thing going?
25. Cleveland (1-4) - Cleveland has actually played better than I anticipated. If they had a good QB, they would be right in the playoff mix.
26. Tampa Bay (0-4) - It looks like the Bucs are finally righting the ship but its too late. They're dead in the playoff hunt.
27. Green Bay (1-4) - Green Bay's another team that is more competitive than I thought they'd be.
28. Detroit (0-5) - Detroit is close but they just can't finish games out.
1. Chicago (6-0) - The Bears should have lost but great teams find a way to win when they should lose.
2. New England (4-1) - The Chicago/New England game in a couple weeks will be the game of the year.
3. Indianapolis (5-0) - The Colts can't keep winning these close games forever. They better bring their A-game against an angry Redskins team this week.
4. San Diego (4-1) - Phillip Rivers is the real deal. I can't wait until San Diego finally plays Denver and we get an idea of where this division race is going.
5. New Orleans (5-1) - What a huge win for the Saints. This team is playoff-bound.
6. Denver (4-1) - Denver was less than dominating against Oakland, in fact, if they were playing any kind of a team they would have been upset with that effort. The Raiders gave them the game.
7. Carolina (4-2) - The Panthers proved that they are back after winning in Baltimore.
8. Jacksonville (3-2) - The Jags schedule gets alot easier from here on out so the Colts better watch themselves.
9. Philadelphia (4-2) - I know they were coming off the game against us but that loss is going to really hurt the Eagles. Their schedule isn't getting any easier.
10. Seattle (4-1) - Many people are saying the Seahawks win proved that they are still the best team in the NFC West. It had a different affect on me. They won because of a horrible rule which the NFL should change and I think that the next time they play the Rams in Seattle there will be a different result at the end.
11. Dallas (3-2) - Parcells really needs to put Romo in. While Drew Bledsoe struggled, in the short period of time that Romo was in there he went 2-for-2 for 35 yards and a touchdown. I don't think you can ask for much better than that.
12. NY Giants (3-2) - Impressive win for New York this week. Their game with us this coming week will show a lot about both teams.
13. Cincinnati (3-2) - What's wrong with the Bengals? 13 points with this offense?!
14. Baltimore (4-2) - Looks like the inevitable McNair injury has finally happened.
15. Pittsburgh (2-3) - It took them long enough but the Steelers have finally woke up. If they would have beaten Cincinnati like they should have they would be 3-2 and in second place right now.
16. St. Louis (4-2) - I dont think this team is done yet. They're going to be looking for revenge when they play the Seahawks again.
17. Atlanta (3-2) - This team is done though. The Giants out-ran the Falcons.
18. Minnesota (3-2) - Maybe the Vikings' bye week will get them off their horrible play lately. Lets just hope they didn't repeat their mistakes from their last bye week.
19. NY Jets (3-3) - It looks like the Ravens and Bengals aren't as good as we thought they were so the Jets do have a shot at the playoffs if they can continue their good play.
20. Kansas City (2-3) - That game was a repeat of the Jets loss to the Jaguars last week. No way they were beating the Steelers this week.
21. Washington (2-4) - Okay, you're 2-3, you're playing one of the worst teams in football and if you beat them you're .500. Well the Redskins can't blame their inexplicable loss to the Titans at home on a lack of motivation.
22. Buffalo (2-4) - The Bills' early run of good luck has finally worn out. They're back to being the same old Bills.
23. Tampa Bay (1-4) - Jon Gruden's team is winless no more but they're not going to be winning many games by scoring a measly 14 points.
24. Cleveland (1-4) - The Browns are close and, call me crazy, if they pull it together I think they still have a shot to make the playoffs this year.
25. San Francisco (2-4) - I thought the Niners would lose but I never guessed that it would be as bad as it was.
26. Tennessee (1-5) - Looks like Vince Young is proving everyone wrong again.
27. Arizona (1-5) - The Bears may have been who you thought they were Dennis Green, but it is also true that your Cardinals are exactly who the American public thinks they are- a team incapable of winning the big game. On a better note, how good is Matt Leinart?
28. Green Bay (1-4) - So, how's that Koren Robinson deal working out for ya?
29. Detroit (1-5) - Is anyone else wondering why there is so little attention surrounding Matt Millen after a 1-5 start? I guess the media is used to the Lions losing by now.
30. Houston (1-4) - That game was a repeat of Super Bowl XXXVIII when we let the Bills go into halftime with a lead only to blow them away in the Second Half.
31. Miami (1-5) - I guess we put Nick Saban in Canton too soon.
32. Oakland (0-5) - The Raiders are the only winless team that didn't find a way to pull off a major upset this weekend. They can't say they didn't get an opportunity, it was almost like Denver wanted them to win the game.
As I mention in my picks, I don't think the Colts will be bringing their A-game against Washington. Indy has Denver and New England after this game, so they could be preparing for those instead.
I think the Chargers home split with the Broncos.
I agree that the Jets have a shot at the playoffs. They have the Lions and Browns the next two weeks, so they could be looking at a 5-3 record going into November.
Vince Young is definitely proving me wrong. I keep expecting him to make rookie mistakes, but he's not doing it. It's pretty remarkable.
Im considering picking the Redskins as my upset special this week.
I agree that the Chargers and Broncos home split. It's really hazy in that division right now as to who will win it. I think it'll end up like '04, Chargers finish first and Broncos finish second with a shot at the wildcard.
Well, the Colts will be looking ahead and the Redskins will be wanting to make up for losing to Tennessee last week. And the Redskins have lost to the Titans and beaten the Jaguars so beating the Colts would follow that pattern.
10. Seattle (4-1) - Many people are saying the Seahawks win proved that they are still the best team in the NFC West. It had a different affect on me. They won because of a horrible rule which the NFL should change and I think that the next time they play the Rams in Seattle there will be a different result at the end.
did that "stupid" rule march down on this "underrated" rams defense with 1:44 to go? Did this "stupid rule" blow a 21-7 halftime lead? Face it the Rams blew it, and the Seahawks offense just woke up at the end. St. Louis was lucky to be in that situation. Seattle had the game won until Maurice Morris fumbled it giving them another chance. The Rams were just riding momentum in the first half. The better team won.
And im sorry, there wont be a "different result" next time. The seahawks dont lose at home(the last being December of 04)
I certaintly wouldn't be surprised if the Jets made the playoffs but I still don't think that they will. I think that the fifth seed will be Jacksonville and the sixth will be a team from the AFC North.
