Who should have been fired
Permalink

Walt said last year his oppinions on who should and should not be fired. Here is what I think.

Bill Parcells-Cowboys: Definetly not! He carries that team. If Parcells was not the coach of this team, they would have been 5-11 last year.

Andy Reid-Eagles: Not yet. He has led them to the Playoffs 4 out of 5 years. But has yet to win a big game. Let him stay two more years. If no improvement, then a change is needed.

Steve Spurrier-Redskins: Definetly! He was the worst coach in the NFL last year. The Redskins are the most talented team in the NFC East. But it didnt matter because of him.

Jim Fassel-Giants:  No. He was a great leader who led this team to great achievments every year but last. He should have stayed and New York will suffer because of his absence.

Mike Sherman-Packers: Yes! He has made his team underachieve every year. If he were to be replaced by any one , that was even mediocre. The Packers would be on top of the mountain, if he would leave.

Mike Tice-Vikings: Absolutely! The Vikings could win the Superbowl, if he and their owner would be replaced. He has playmakers like Randy Moss, and Daunte Culpepper and he cant make the postseason. That is a disgrace. The Vikings are a mirror image of the Chiefs. But the Chiefs have a good coach.

Steve Mariucci-Lions: Absolutely not. He is in the process of rebuilding this franchise.

Dick Jauron-Bears: Yes he should have been fired in 2002. 2001 was the exception not the rule.

John Fox-Panthers: No. He will build this franchise into a dynasty, mark my words.

Jon Gruden-Bucs: Not yet. This year, they will disappoint. Then talk about firing him.

Jim Haslett-Saints: Not yet. He could have a breakthrough year still.

Dan Reeves-Falcons: NO! Anyone except the all time greats would have done worse than a 5-11 season if their greatest star got injured. He built this team.

Mike Martz-Rams: Yes. If this team was still coached by Dick Vermeil they would have been 14-2. If Bill Parcells would have coached this team they would have had a great shot at being 19-0. The Rams are underachieving under him.

Mike Holmgren-Seahawks: No. Not yet... But it sure seems like he rode Brett Favre's coat tails. Sort of like Shannahan.

Dave McGinnis-Cardinals: Sure. But with Arizona's cheap owner hardly anyone could win. He hasn't won, though so I guess he should be fired. Arizona is cursed. Maybe, Denny can lift it but I doubt it.

Dennis Erickson-49ers: Absolutely. He never should have been hired. They had a future hall of fame coach, and they fired him, then they hired this joke.

Bill Belichick-Patriots: Are you kidding me? He is a master.

Dave Wannstedt-Dolphins: Absolutely. He has a talented team, and he cant even make the Playoffs.

Gregg Williams-Bills: Failure. Really should be fired.

Herm Edwards-Jets: No. Hes a great coach he was just in a similar situation to Dan Reeves.

Brian Billick-Ravens: Great coach. No.

Marvin Lewis-Bengals: He is way overrated, but he still shouldnt be fired.

Bill Cowher-Steelers: No. He has led this team to dominance in the AFC North/Central. But they are slipping. They might have to do something soon.

Butch Davis-Browns: Yes. He doesnt know talent when he sees it, and ant win big games.

Tony Dungy-Colts: NO! He is a great coach. The Buccaneers would have been in the Conference  Championship if he was still their coach.

Jeff Fisher-Titans: No. As long as he is coach, they will always be playoff contenders.

Dom Capers-Texans: No. He's actually doing pretty good for an expansion franchise.

Jack Del Rio-Jaguars: No. He is unproven still, but give him 2 more years to make a decision on him.

Dick Vermeil-Chiefs: NO! The Chiefs if they could improve their defense could win the Superbowl.

Mike Shannahan-Broncos: He shouldnt have been last year, but if he cant win a playoff game this year, fir him.

Bill Calahan-Raiders: I actually think this guy is a good coach. But he had to be fired because the team rebelled against him.

Marty Schottenheimer-Chargers: Marty is a great coach. But for some reason he cant do anything in San Diego. He should be fired.

If owners followed my advice

Fired: 12. Renewed: 20

I agree with pretty much everything you wrote, except for two:

I don't think Dick Jauron should have been fired. They were 13-3 in 2001, and keep in mind that they did not have one single home game in 2002. They started off hot (2-0), but they couldn't take traveling that often.

I think Jim Haslett should be fired. His team, much like the Miami Dolphins, suffer meltdowns every single year. He's a former defensive coordinator and the Saints can't play defense! He has to go.

That was ONE year. And in that year, they experienced a quick exit. History has shown that his teams have never stayed focused, through the Pre Season, Regular Season, Post Season, and offseason. He should have been fired. But Jerry Angelo should have been too.  Jim Haslett, well. The Saints are the team I follow the least. I live in Texas, but we only get, 1 Dallas game, 1 Houston game, and 1 game that is supposed to be a good game. So unless, the Saints are on primetime I dont get to see them. So maybe he should be fired. But the Saints are not that talented. So its not like Dave Wannstedt. Hes working with the talent hes given.

I thought the Bears stayed pretty focused at the end of the 2003 season, after they were out of the playoff picture. They finished the year well. Also remember that the quarterbacks under Jauron were: Jim Miller, Shane Matthews, Chris Chandler and Kordell Stewart. Not exactly a winning crew.

Yeah they stayed focused AGAINST THE EASY ONES! They won against the Skins and the slumping Vikings.

But they still won. Lots of teams would have folded and lost every game for the rest of the season. Keep in mind that they defeated the Broncos at Denver. Jake Plummer and Clinton Portis were both in the lineup, so no excuses there. They also almost beat St. Louis, losing 23-21. They went into Lambeau as well, and had control of that game until Kordell Stewart threw three critical interceptions.

They did do good against Denver, but I think he could have done better.
