Okay everybody knows that there are 6 Elite Defenses in the NFL. Dallas, Carolina, New England, Buffalo, Baltimore, and Tennessee. But what are their rankings? Here is the true Defensive Power Rankings.
I think Dallas would be #1 if they had a consistent pass rusher. I'll still take New England's D, although they may be unfocused after winning the Super Bowl.
Ellis and Wiley will cut through O Lines like a knife through butter, they should get 5 sacks each against the Giants both times. That is 10 each Already.
They MIGHT get 15 sacks combined, but again, that's not good enough of a pass rush for a #1 defense to have. Also a concern is the cornerback position. Behind Terrence Newman, they have... Pete Hunter? Dallas will be brutal against the pass.
Pete Hunter is fantastic. Ive seen him in practice, on the internet, if there is one X Factor that noone will see coming, and then it hits them it will be Hunter and Julius Jones.
I don't know, there's a huge difference between practice and the actual games. If practice determined how great players were, Eagles WR Na Brown would be a Pro Bowler.
Very true, but he stood in for Edwards last year and you couldnt tell any difference. But hey, also to go along with your point about practice, what about Ryan Leaf?
That's a good point. Ryan Leaf and Jeff George would both be Hall of Fame quarterbacks if what they did in practice counted. I still can't believe he was such a bust so quickly. Usually those guys stick around for a while. Akili Smith lasted longer than he did. Leaf is just another of many PAC-10 QBs who disappoint in the NFL.
Well San Diego had the #2 pick, so they never had a shot at drafting Peyton Manning, but they could have drafted someone like Charles Woodson or Randy Moss.
San Diego orginally had #3, but they traded up into the two slot. The Colts took Manning with the first pick, and Leaf was the second pick. What a bust.
Well, Leaf had a golden arm with a copper attitude. While in Wazzou, he exploited horrible PAC-10 defenses as other PAC-10 QB busts have (Cade McNown, Akili Smith, etc.) When he got to San Diego, he struggled to learn the offense and threw many interceptions during his rookie year and couldn't handle the pressure. He mouthed off at his teammates, the media and the coaching staff. So, they decided to go in another direction (Drew Brees).
I dont think the Chargers have a good eye for talent. They got Brees( another bust), and now Rivers ( little brat, who is overrated.) while the Giants have a future star in Eli Manning. Also is Cade Mccown, Josh Mccown's brother
Cade McNown is not officially retired, but he does not belong to any team in the NFL. He might be playing in the CFL, Arena League or NFL Europe... or maybe he's just sitting on the couch waiting for his phone to ring. The latter sounds right.
I think he did play for the Rams, but they cut him. Nah, those two are unrelated as they have different but similar last names. Cade McNown, Josh McCown. Josh does have a little brother named Luke, out of LA Tech, who currently plays for Cleveland. He should also be a starter down the road.
Yeah, that is what I figured he just romes around as a free agent, yeah when i saw your top story "Its in the Cards", I was surprised because I have been telling every one that McCown was the 2nd best QB in the NFC West and noone believed me, and now I finally found someone who aggrees. And I agree that after Garcia leaves, Luke McCown should be the starter.
I think Luke steps in and starts sometime next year. Jeff Garcia has a degenerative disc in his back. Kelly Holcomb will be the #2 quarterback this season, but after a plethora of injuries, the Cleveland coach in '05 (probably won't be Butch Davis) will probably give Luke a shot.
I will definetly say, when he worked for us he was a great coordinator, but he just doesnt have the makings of a head coach, hes a follower not a leader. Alot like Dave Campo.
It still amazes me how he blew that playoff game (Browns vs Steelers). On this website, I was talking about how the Browns should line up 5 WRs and attack Pittsburgh each time they played them. Butch didn't do it the first two times and lost. Finally, he did it in the playoff game. Cleveland should have won that game, but Butch got conservative and took the play calling duties away from his defensive coordinator. He started playing prevent defense. We all know what happened after that. In my opinion, he should have been fired right after that game. Even though Cleveland made the playoffs in '02, I think they underachieved. They should have won the AFC North.
Most of the AFC North has underachived over the years, before this year Pittsburgh won the division what 8 years in a row? Now Pittsburgh has not been the best team during this era of dominance. Look at their playoff record, they never won the Superbowl, but during this time Baltimore, Cincinnati, and Cleveland underachieved. Pittsburgh played to the limit. That has to say something good about Bill Cowher. Tennessee and Jacksonville while they were in the division though, pushed Pittsburgh to the limit. That has to say something good about Jeff Fisher, and Tom Coughlin. But this year Baltimore and Cinncinati finally had an awakening, which is bad news for the Steelers. But there is a way they can make it a 3 horse race, stop being conservative in the Off Season. If they dont, then they will be waiting a long time for Marvin Lewis to leave Cinci and Brian Billick to leave Baltimore. While Cleveland stays clueless.
Well, you're right, thats what happened last year. The Ravens and Bengals both caught up to Pittsburgh and surpassed them as the elite teams in the AFC North. Pittsburgh has had CB and OL problems for years and yet they did not address those positions this offseason. Instead, they signed a punter for over a million a year. They won't win more than 6 games this year.
