I actually liked what Woody Paige said on Around the Horn yesterday. Suspend him for a full year and have him reinstated on October the 1st of next year. Boomer made a good point on ESPN too, if he steps just right, Andre Gurode is dead right now and Haynesworth is charged for murder. This penalty was way too light, I hope this isn't a sign that the new commish is a wimp.
I would have been fine with the rest of this season. And he was a couple of inches away from killing and/or permanatley damaging Gurode. Five games is not even close to enough.
Im not sure on this but I dont think Jeff Fisher has the power to suspend him for more than this. If my memory serves me correctly, TO wrote in his book TO that a team can only suspend one of their players for 4 games maximum. The league can of course suspend for more and Im very disappointed in Roger Goodell that he didn't take appropriate action.
Another thing Goodell has done that Im disappointed in is that I've heard he's pushed a bill through Congress that outlaws internet gambling on NFL games. Is this true? Anyway, doesn't gambling on NFL games help the league?
I don't think it's going to work because internet gambling is a multi-billion dollar industry. And you're right, football is so popular because of betting and fantasy football.
As for Haynesworth, I was happy to learn that he called Gurode and apologized directly, and will be taking anger-management classes.
